well be showing you how to count colored cells in Microsoft Excel. There is no built-in method, but in Excel you can count up how many colored cells you have in a range. If you have a large dataset of colored cells, well show you how to count them. Lets count the blue and orange cells in this spreadsheet. 1. The best method is to use VBA code. Go to File - Options - Customize Ribbon - and check Developer on the right. Hit OK. 2. Go to the Developer tab at the top and click Visual Basic. 3. Right-click Sheet1 - Insert - Module. 4. Type or copy and paste this code into the window: Function CountCellColor(CountRange As Range, CountColor As Range) Dim Color As Integer Dim Total As Integer Color = CountColor. Interior. ColorIndex Set rCell = CountRange For Each rCell In CountRange If rCell. Interior. ColorIndex = Color Then Total = Total + 1 End If Next rCell CountCellColor = Total End Function 5. Weve created our own formula, and we can now use that like any other Excel formula. Exit the Visual Basic window and return to the spreadsheet. 6. To count a color, click the cell you want the formula to be in and type: =CountCellColor(C2: D15, C11. The first argument is our range we want the formula to count colored cells in, and the second is an example cell that contains the color we want to search for. It mistakes the colour green for grey and for some reason it cannot handle the colours purple and blue being next to each other, any ideas as to why this may be?

thanks but when I colour more cells the formula is not running automatically and updating the quantity, could you please advise why?
