AMD's China-Only Ryzen 5 3500X CPU Review: 6C/6T Zen 2 vs. 3600, 2600

AMD's Ryzen 5 3500X CPU is a China-only launch, but can be purchased via online retailers at around the price of an R5 2600. It's half the threads of the 3600, though. Sponsor: Gigabyte X299X Designare 10G (Amazon In this review, we're primarily comparing the AMD R5 3500X, a 6-core, 6-thread part, to the AMD R5 3600, its 6C/12T counterpart. We also talk about the R5 2600, another 6C/12T part, but one which is about the same price as the R5 3500X currently is online. We've seen pricing on the 3500X range from 120 to 200, but at 200, you should obviously be buying a 3600 instead. At the lower end of the price scale, it does become more reasonable in value. The R5 3500X is a China-only CPU that can be bought from retailers online and imported, although it takes a few weeks to receive. It's still Ryzen and all the same motherboards work with it as with the R5 3600. AMD R5 2600 AMD R5 3600

It seems that this CPU is intended for markets who simply cannot afford the more expensive parts. I appreciate the, albeit strange, effort on AMD's part to make use of the 6C Zen 2 chips with SMT portions defective or removed (this product is likely low-volume) and making it reasonably prices. I am aware that in places like China and India, product is either so scares or so marked up that the high-end is usually astronomically out of budget for most people, and the same is true for mid-range. This might not make much sense for an American or European audience, but I can see the appeal for an international one.

I have to desagree with you steve. The 3500x is extremely good value for money for gaming ur basicly getting a 9400f for 120 bucks, that can overclock and has an upgrade path. Later on if the games need or u decide u need more cores u can swap for a 3950x, 3900x or a new 4th gen cpu of that caliber (16/12 cores) 2 years later for a bargain price. Can save 80 bucks or invest in a good x570 or x470 motherboard that has a vrm that complements well a 16 core overclock If you want to do productivity work just buy a 2700 that you can find for 150 or less, but if you only game i think the 3500x is the better buy

It is 110, about 10 bucks cheaper than a 2600, 50 bucks cheaper than a 2700x and about 90-100 bucks cheaper than a 3600 which is incredibly expensive (around here) right now due to high demand I guess (Prices in Euro. Free Shipping from Ali Express if you can wait. Not gonna lie seriously considering it for my second built I'm kinda planning right now. I was aiming for the 2600 and might need to go for a different motherboard (MSI B450M A Pro Max) as I have no possibility to update the bios on the Gigabyte board I initially wanted should I go for the 3500x. I'm in Germany btw.

Here in Italy, the 3500x is around 110 euros on AliExpress. The 3600 is around 200 euros. Ryzen 2600 125 euros, the 2700 145 euros. X versions cost 10 euros more. I'm talking about pretty much best prices you can have them right now (+/- 5 euros. In AAA games as seen here is pretty close to the 3600X/2700X. In esport games and emulation the 3500x will be probably faster than any Zen+ CPU. If it doesn't get stopped by customs seems a pretty good deal for gaming to me and still the platform will be next 2020 Zen iteration ready. The real con is warranty and shipping.

Hey Gamer Nexus Im from Indonesia, and the pricing here is a bit different from that of United States, and I'm wanting to upgrade to AMD from my old i5 6400. My budget is around 300 (include the motherboard) The price list for Ryzen 5 2600, 3500, 3500x, and 3600 are: R5 2600: 122. 49 R5 3500: 137. 07 R5 3500x: 161. 54 R5 3600: 216. 17 Which one should I get now? I want to get 3600, but you see 55 buck difference is kinda big for me (As i can use that for better mboard) Thanks

Well I can purchase it for 110 while 3600 is 195 and for gpu up to even 2070 there is no difference. Testing with 2080ti makes no sense, and for majority of games newer architecture will beat 2600 easily everywhere. Why didnt you test esport titles, this is intented for chinese market where esports are huge + you wont be using above even 2060 in that case. Better purchase than 2600 for pure gaming for sure, not everyone blenders 24/7 or something + its easier to cool.

I'm glad I suggested doing this video to Steve: -D Great job! I personally think it (at 125 USD) is a fantastic budget gaming CPU, especially given the absolutely MASSIVE upgrade path available on the AM4 platform. I was recently looking at used prices for a 6700k/7700k (as I have a spare z170 mobo lying around, and I could buy a 3500X AND an AM4 mobo for the same price as a used skylake i7 CPU alone. Guess it's time to list that z170 mobo on eBay.

From the Philippines as well, I was thinking of the 3500 as well, until I saw the prices (not available locally, must be shipped and takes time compared to 3600 which is available from local stores. with no local warranties and only PHP 1, 500+ cheaper than the 3600, I did not even try ordering one online. a 3600 boxed here has warranty from the local distributor, which is a requirement for me. if it was a lot cheaper, then I'd consider. maybe.

For something that's there to fill the gap and compete with the i5 9400f and the i3s. specifically for gaming, which the 2600 does lag behind in, it's not half bad. If the target demographic could go for the 3600 or a full fledged i5 they would have gone for it already. But alas, in a lot of markets those are prohibitively expensive, and it's hard to justify an extra 50-100 dollars for a 3600, especially if it's mostly for gaming.

here i can see 2600 vs 8400. it was arguing in 2018 that as becuse of 2600 was using less cpu usage than 8400, it would have extra head room for future next gen gpu. now here today we have 2080ti, and all benchmark was done on 2080ti at here. and i have seen that still the extra head room of 2600 does not provide any advantageous to ryzen series. so we will see same result of 3600 vs 9600kf in 2022 with 3080ti
