I am in the Deep South, no trout. I don't fish much anymore, but I used to fish all the time. I got into fly fishing for bluegills, lots of fun. I practiced when not on the water. I could cast far, lay the line down gently, and accurately. It was always fun to go to the Smokey Mountains and watch the people try to fly fish. They would be decked out with all the brand new Orvis equipment, rod, reel, waders, vest, and even the little basket. They didn't even cast, just waved the rod around. 10 feet was long for them.

Great lesson. I especially like the tip on stripping as the line lands. Applicable for freshwater fishing too.
