Welcome to Riyadh, the biggest city in Saudi Arabia and today we re going on a mixed food tour to eat one of the biggest and most popular shawarma s in the city, to eat a local family feast, and then to hang out with Hisham who will cook us the national food of Saudi Arabia! Mama Noura - Easily one of the most famous restaurants in all of Riyadh is Mama Noura, where they serve what is probably the biggest shawarma in Saudi Arabia, they serve 1000 s and 1000 s of customers everyday. Their main shawarma is made from chicken, marinated perfectly and served in house made bread with garlic sauce and pickles. One of the characteristic differences is that it s served very small, like sliders, so you can eat many of them. We also tried their juices which are popular as well. This is a must eat when you re in Saudi Arabia! Home meal in Riyadh - Next up we we were kindly invited over to the home of Turkey who invited to share a meal with his family. Typically every weekend they gather together to cook and eat. Today, Uncle made his famous mandi, and we also had braised camel. The meal was outstanding, laying over a bed of rice and all of us coming together for the feast. We also sat by the fire, enjoyed each others company and a variety of different snacks and Saudi Arabian delicacies - and of course Saudi coffee and sweet tea. It was truly a remarkable experience and display of genuine hospitality. Kabsa with Hisham - Huge thanks to Hisham: - Finally to round up this tour, we headed over to Hisham s house where he cooked orange kabsa, what is probably the national food of Saudi Arabia and his particular recipe originating from his family in Makkah. It was incredible to learn about all the Arabian spices and ingredients that went into the recipe and then to share the kabsa with Hisham at his house. Thank you Hisaham!

Again. One thing missing. I don t see any women. No where. Not in public or the restaurants even at the homes. The food may look good but the obvious oppression of the women is evident. No amount of sharing a meal is going to change the lives of most women over there who are treated only a little higher than a farm animal. The few I have seen at all are hidden under depressing black veils and robes. Maybe they wear the clothes of mourning because of their suppression. I know you are just trying to show food and culture but this video series shows the culture for what it is and it comes through the lens. Facade of normalcy.

I'm surprised how the Saudi kabsa differs from everything else I've known of kabsa, and since that is a dish that was brought to South Yemen in the late 90s after people started traveling to Gulf countries, we might not know much about it, I'm from Aden so the couple times I ate Hanieth were a long long time ago and never tasted camel meat, but from what I know that Hadremi and shabwani people from south Yemen brought haneith to the Gulf, and they eat camel in Shabwa, but not that I heard yet anyone does that in Aden or lahj. Still, though, how would they eat all that fat at night?

HI, Mark, next time, can you tackle about their clay oven like show how they make it or who teaches them to mold, etc. Also their big trays that looks likw aluminum (maybe, where they got them. Do they hand made, bought from the store, etc. Same with their rugs or big placemats. They all look authentic. And thank you for showing all of these food and cusines along with their traditions.

Believe me, the Saudis are the most generous, humble and loving people of different races. You feel reassured and comfortable while you are among them
They want and try to make you enjoy with them and they don't even know you. for example Saudi man per minute 19: 21 He says a pure Saudi word of gentle feelings, meaning I hope you enjoy eating

You have no idea how much I miss Mama Noura
Also Yamaal AlShaam, Bayt Shawarma, and AlAjami have amazing shawarmas too. Mama Noura put a lot of sauce in the shawarma so it's wetter while the others use more meat. Both types are different and excellent in their own ways

Good morning Mark. You again have shown how beautiful the cuisine of Saudi Arabia truly is an art. This trip has been so wonderful to watch and learn. Blessings to all that made this trip possible and my sincere thanks to you Mark for bringing us along.

It's terrible that women are nowhere to be seen. I personally couldn't go to this country. The western world is a mess too and problems are not isolated to the Arab states. I don't think God wanted our world to be like how it is in every corner of our planet.

I would be just scooping everything inside a big bowl individually and use a big spoon to eat so it's more convenient and doesn't drip everywhere, as your hands don't have as much surface area compared to a spoon when eating something such as rice

YES! I love this trio. This is the holy triad. Leo for his intelligence, Guga for his culinary luminance, and Angel for his grounded reality. When these 3 ate together, you don't even have to try the recipe. They paint a perfect picture

Hi Mark, please visit Northeast India! Even Gordon Ramsey had visited one of the states few years back! I'm sure you will have a good experience and find similarities with the other eastern Asian countries. :)

If everything looks very delicious, you just want to try everything yourself. Although something makes me very sad that you don't see women! Do they eat separately in Saudi Arabia? Or is it just for recording?
reply

I have seen one female so far. Food looks great but the fact I have seen one female is still very telling of this country. Women in Western countries have little to complain about compared to these women.
