Today we re in Samtskhe-Javakheti southern region of Georgia, an area where Georgia, Armenia, and Turkey all come together. We re meeting up with the nicest Armenian family who are preparing for us a huge Armenian feast - a barbecue on the picturesque side of the lake. You don t want to miss any of the food, let s start eating! A huge thank you Kristo from Culinary Backstreets for taking me on this food tour today. They offer tours in cities around the world and if you use my code migrationology10 you can get a discount on booking food tours. So it was a couple of hours drive from Tbilisi, and it s a totally different setting in Samtskhe-Javakheti. The mountains are gorgeous and green and the lifestyle is more relaxed with plenty of space. The specific village we visited was called Gamdzani and it s mainly an Armenian village. Kristo had known this family and they run a restaurant and lodge called Family Corner It s truly a one of a kind mountain lodge where you can stay and eat family cooked Armenian food in Georgia. But instead of eating at the restaurant, they took the bbq and all the ingredients to the lake where they set up a huge lakeside Armenian bbq. There was over 13 types of kebabs and so many other side dishes as well, including dolma!

You don't know what this segment meant to me. I had a boss, Liz Mooradian, in a Los Angeles Mission taking care of the Homeless in the area. She was Armenian and her family would cook for me some of the most fantastic Armenian dishes. I worked for her about 5 years before moving to Nevada. After I moved she died, along with her husband, from cancer. It broke my heart because I knew I would never experience the kind of food that you shared in this video--although I did recognize the eggplant--they made incredible eggplant dishes for me. If I EVER can get to Georgia and find Armenian dishes again I will be BLESSED. Thank you, Mark. Armenians are a MOST AMAZING culture and I thank you for reminding me of one of the most amazing experiences with their family in my life.

ok ok mark stop lying or exaggerating about fruits, we all know that watermelon has water, and you make a face like it's the first time you eat watermelon, you never reply to messages or comments, I thought only Andrew Zimmern was egocentric. Do you remember the video of the two together, his ego made you look less than him and I left a message defending you because i don't like people like that. but sometimes people turn to those who gave them a helping hand, they don't understand that thanks to us they have that economic comfort and they keep travelling, you're welcome mark

This looks absolutely amazing Mark, thanks for sharing. I love your videos, but now that you are so famous, you get to experience and eat things that we normal people could not experience. Like this meal in Georgia. No way a normal traveller would experience that. I still like to watch your videos a lot, but they have since quite a time, been way beyond what we normal people could experience when we go to the same places. Which I find not good.

the guy who cooked seems to get his health by just being happy to feed! he was just watching you all enjoy the food, never ate anything himself. he was relishing the look on your face after you ate all that delicious food he cooked for you all. Amazing place though and I was quite happy to see so many vegetarian options too. perfect for someone like me. Now this place is on my bucket list for sure.

So I live in the UK and a Georgian family has just moved in next door and I've made friends with the son and I can say first hand that they are the most hospitable people you could ever wish to meet. The way they welcome you to their dinner table is unlike any other culture I've experienced. And the food is unreal, it really is amazing the way they cook and season meats.

This is so incredibly produced in such a serene location! What a family! What great hospitality! What a variety of food! Saw Armenian food for the first time. The liver skewer, wrapped in goat stomach fat is also well known in our Northern part of the country and is called 'Patta Tikka' which means 'Bandaged BBQ'! So Mark, when are you heading to Armenia?

At the crossroads between Asia and Europe, the Caucasus region is such a special part of the world. The food seems to be a mix between Central Asian, Middle-Eastern and Eastern European, and looks so tasty! Wonderful travel-and-eating video again, Mark

Dear Mark's wife. I understand he wears his wedding ring but he was cheating with water melon! He said tons of wow. Spicy little laugh on how he talks
Smokey? Oh! What is that? Okay! Cabage inside of me? That is beautiful! Yes?

If you're not very good at cooking, you can invite Mark for tasting food. He will never say it's worst food i have tasted.
Instead he will say, it's delicious food, it's juicy, it's aroma, taste, texture is very unique.

I'm not a fan of watermelon but that one was so juicy that even my mouth was watering! Beautiful video, as usual, and such gorgeous places and people: this immediately puts me in a relaxed and positive mood.

What an amazing spread of delicious looking fresh food. You can tell they are really proud of their food with all the effort they put in. I love how they're just eating outside in a beautiful wild area.
reply

Man, I've been to both Armenia and Georgia and both countries are beautiful but god, the people are extremely rude and cocky. Especially in Armenia, everyone is trying to rob you and take advantage of you.
