Congratulations to Jay Fai ) who recently was awarded a Michelin Star Jay Fai ) is no doubt one of the most legendary Thai street food restaurants in Bangkok - some people are loyal fans, others say that its overpriced. Its a Thai restaurants in Bangkok that I had been wanting to eat at for a long time, but never got around to it - partly because it is so expensive. So finally one day for lunch, Ying and I drove over to central Bangkok to try Jay Fai ) for the first time. But really quickly, about the name. In Thai, Jay ) means a Chinese Aunty and Fai ) means a mole, yes a mole. What I can tell you first about the restaurant is that the owner is absolutely awesome. She wears ski goggles and a snow cap while shes cooking, and she cooks over huge fire charcoal, fanning the flame as she expertly cooks. Shes also quite a character, and she loves to chat - so while I was filming she shared all about herself, and how her method of cooking her legendary Thai crab omelet ensures that it doesnt soak up very much oil. Its indeed the most amazing omelet you might ever see in your life. Crab omelet ) - You can either order the 800 THB or the 1000 THB crab omelet, I went with the 1000 THB. Its huge, but only uses 2 eggs, but its packed with shell less crab nuggets. The omelet is cooked burrito style, and its massive. Its a must order when you eat at Jay Fai. Drunken noodles ) - Her version of Thai drunken noodles (pad kee mao sen ya) is the dish I would come back for over and over again. Again, its not cheap, but the quality of seafood and the seasoning that she uses is superb. The balance of flavor will blow your mind - its really the best plate of Thai drunken noodles Ive had in Bangkok. Tom yum goong ) - For our final dish we tried Jay Fai ) tom yum goong. Again, massive prawns and seafood were used, and she cooked it over charcoal. It was awesomely delicious, sour, and flavorful. Conclusion: Eating at Thai street food restaurants like this can be all about expectations. You have to go in knowing the prices are very high and youre going to spend way more money than going to any other corner Thai street food restaurant. That being said, its a one-of-a-kind historical culinary legend of a restaurant in Bangkok. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience eat at Jay Fai, and it was an honor to stand there and talk with Jay Fai, and then eat her cooking

When you cover it in so much dried chilli, you lose the subtle flavours, Mark always swamps everything in Chilli, so listening to a food reviewer who can only smell food (thankfully he can't add chilli to the smell) then it ruins the review. I hate to say it but his reviews are very one dimensional, literally no description of the subtle flavours and complexities of the dish. I've been married to a Thai for over 16 years and have to say, unless it's insanely spicy or over marinated, your taste buds lose their intricate abilities, and that's exactly what Marks reviews keep demonstrating.

Had the enormous pleasure of eating there in October. Long wait but thoroughly worth it. I had the Tom Yum and the Crab Omlette. The flavour in the soup was fabulous and the prawns perfectly cooked. It's almost impossible to describe how good the omlette is. Full of succlent crab and not at all oily. Jay Fai herself never stopped cooking from the moment I arrived until I left. I've no idea where she gets the stamina from.

I know Thai food. Many years ago, we went to Bangkok on R&R. After just a couple of months, we learned to bribe the waitress into providing a bowl of boiling water, and dunked all our table ware into it. I hope this caught on locally. At home, the small town of San Anselmo, CA, has 23 Thai restaurants. Cheers, JL

Why is so hard for people to appreciate other people hard work and success. This lady deserves all the praise. She started from nothing, lost everything and got back up again. Her food is beautiful, looks delicious and she loves what she does. If you can't appreciate all these them get a life.

Jay Fai is truly an Inspiration. She is a strong woman who had been through a lot, and still believed in herself. A marvelous chef who still cooks at the age of 73. I just simply can't put it into words, how much I respect this lady. I really want to visit Bangkok someday and try Jay Fai's cooking.

Watched this vlog because of netflix hehe here in munich, germany there's a lot of thai resto here and there's this resto that we frequently visit because the food there is tastiest among those thai restos here in munich. Hooe you could visit here again in munich mark

Very few people in this world can tolerate that kind of heat coming out from the fire wood flame. See the hands of the cook, they have endured that heat for yearsFlame from a LPG cannot match it and does not give the authentic taste. Kudos to the great lady

On the netflix said that she is the expert in dry tomyum, and thank god you mention the price, because she is rated as streetfood on netflix, i tought the price is not that high too, but if i go to thai, i might try the food, no matter the price.
