If youre looking for some of the best Chinese style roast meat in Singapore, Kim Heng Cafe is one of the best places to visit. As soon as you walk into the open air food court hawker centre, at the back youll see the main part of the cafe that serves all sorts of different Hong Kong styles roast meat - theres roast duck, roast pork belly, roast chicken, and char siu - those are the main combinations of meat that I saw. On the top of the meat cabinet youll find the menu where you can order all sorts of different combinations of roast meat - if you want roast duck and roast pork, or if you want roast chicken and char siu, or what I chose, the roast duck and char siu combination. I got my plate or roast duck and char siu and it came topped over a plate of rice with a dark sauce on the rice. The meat was absolutely glistening in the light of the cafe. I started with the roast duck which was unbelievably succulent and juicy, yet it was quite lean apart from the layer of crispy skin fat on the outside. It was the best roast duck Ive had in Singapore. The char siu was equally as good, with an incredible mix of both fat and meat all blended together to make it irresistibly good and so juicy as well. Kim Heng Cafe serves some of the best roast meat in Singapore, and when you visit and see the cabinet full of roast meats its impossible to resist. Kim Heng Cafe - Roast Meat in Singapore Address: 214 Serangoon Avenue 4, #01-88, Singapore 550214 Open hours: 8: 30 am 7 pm daily Prices: 5 per plate, but more for plates of meat How to get there: I took the MRT to Serangoon station, and it was about a 10 minute walk from there

Hi Mark i have a serious question for you. Do you have any opinions about animal welfare? You give the impression that you care only about the taste of the dish but do not care about it's provenance. You are clearly enjoying these dishes in SE Asia where respect for animals is very low indeed compared to the West. Would you consider making a video about your stance on animal welfare? It doesn't matter if it doesn't bother you but it would just clear the air so to speak. atb

If you are up for more char siew rice, can check out Tiong Bahru Market, there is a good one there (there are 2 stores there, i cant remember which is the one that has the better one. it is a lunch place, so you would have to go early. There is also delicious soy milk that is with a different form of sugar (palm sugar i think, it sells out early by the end of lunch time. Then there is fourty hands cafe, if you would like to eat non-hawker food.

The best roast duck I have ever had in my life was actually in Chicago, USA. I was visiting my cousins in Chicago, they brought a whole roasted duck from a restaurant in Chinatown Chicago. Man, that was good Then the following week, we try them at the restaurant with their flavored rice INCREDIBLE You have to try it, Mark I don't remember what's the name of the restaurant, but if you ever visit Chicago, I will definitely find it out for you: )

Mark, a YouTuber, who talks about the technical aspects of production, has me thinking about sound, and it occurs to me that despite shooting in noisy quarters your sound quality is consistently good. May I ask what microphone you use? Thanks for that lovely duck that I just vicariously experienced. Singapore series has been just as fantastic as the Bangkok, Saigon, and other series. Btw, have you ever watched Ang Lee's _Eat Drink Man Woman_?

Getting the staff to pull down and then hack-up and wrap-up (to go) a full duck would have made for good viewing. A second scene where you unwrap the paper-wrapped duck and then devour it in your hotel room would've been cool. Eating piece after piece after piece of expertly prepared meat sometimes just has to be done, and rice in that context is kind of like filming for reality TV a prom date where your Mom comes along - anti-climatic.

I've watched quite a few of Mark's video's and you always know he loves the food because he takes a bite, chews and then breaks into a smile before veering to his right. Lol no idea why I picked up on that but man these videos are torture when you're eating a bowl of porridge and you see him tucking in to a freshly cooked roast duck. Awesome work keep it up

After watching this video, headed to Kim Heng Cafe during my first visit to Singapore. After getting off at the wrong MRT station and walking 2 miles, the effort was rewarded with some of the best roast pork and duck you could ever have. Highly recommended place away from the tourist areas and only a half mile walk from the MRT station.

man, let's be honest here, Mark is good at speaking to the camera, has good camera work and good editing. but the guy knows nothing about food beyond what any normal person knows. he's just a regular guy with a camera traveling for a living. his descriptions of the foods he eats are SO vague and provide such little info.

This seems to be like the third or fourth meat on rice dish that you had tried. Hope that you have also tried satay beehoon, rojak and black pepper/chilli crab as well. We also have wantan (dumpling) noodle, hokkien mee (noodle, carrot cake and char kway teow which are simple but absolutely delicious local delicacies.
