You guys mangled the story a little bit. The Maccabees defeated the Greeks with regular swords and stuff. The miracle of the oil doesn't come in until after they won the battle and recovered the (now ransacked and ruined) temple. The oil was used to light candles for prayer, not to defend the temple somehow.
