Let's Play COSMIC ENCOUNTER in Tabletop Simulator! - Overboard, Episode 20
video description
People go -want help with that? - or -do you want to help me? - That is all wrong.
Attacker first claims which people he would ALLOW to join him.
Defender then claims which people he would ALLOW to join him
All non attacker/defender players then chose in PLAYER ORDER if they want to join the attacker or defender based on the invites they got (or didnt):
This has SIGNIFICANT value as a player acting last in turn order get to see what all other players before him chose to do before he even need to chose anything.
IS THIS SO FKN HARD? xD\r\n

A group of friends and I used to play this so much, and one time all 5 of us won the game on the same turn. One of us had an alien power that basically meant they could decide that either the loser or winner gets a bonus of their choice, from handing over cards to gaining a foreign colony on the other's planets (or any mix in between. Basically 4 of us allied against the person and they declare the loser would get a foreign colony, so it pushed us all to 5 colonies on the same turn.

i love the fact that this game is designed in a way where you can pick an objectively over-powered species with the sole counter-measure being -if you pick one of the OP ones, then everyone will bully you, so picking a weaker species might be better for the long game-. for a game like this it honestly feels like a great way to make players start making risk-reward choices right out of the gate

I know this is already very old but it shouldn't have ended there, the tripler flare used in the end says -before any other game effects are applied-, this was even read out loud but glossed over, this means it should've applied to the attack 10 card BEFORE it was turned into 42, meaning the defense should've succeeded and the game should've kept going, still a fun video though

I dont think the tripler flare card works on human flare card. It specifically effects the -revealed- card before any other game effects. The human transform the reveal card into a 42 and therefore, the 42 isn't the revealed card and should not be affected by the tripler flare. That is how i understood it any cosmic experts wanna pitch in?

Out of curiosity, 1) Jenna should have attacked Clayton (with the wild destiny, to potentially make it easier for him to lose 3 home planets, and therefore his alien power? 2) Does the Tripler flare was read as modifying the revealed attack, so shouldn't that mean it affected the 10, not the 42?
I haven't played in a long. long. time: )

I actually quite like the whole Polygon crew. I know so many people like to say that BDG is the only reason to watch Polygon, but all of them are very clearly passionate about games and are committed to putting out the best content possible, regardless of if people watch it. They're like a big, nerdy, dysfunctional family.

32: 10 - Clayton can't do this. An -encounter- is different from the -turn-. You can have 2 encounters per turn, but the -start of turn- phase where you check if you have encounter cards as the attacker only occurs before your first encounter. So Clayton should have ended his turn then instead of drawing a new hand.

they are using to many flares only suppose to be 10 in the deck 5 from the active aliens and 5 from the other aliens not selected during the aliens selection process. Unless there is a variant I am unaware of. I played today and having all 51 flares was to random then I learned only suppose to have 10 flares

Hate to be that guy: But i believe you guys messed up a rule wrong. You aren't suppose to mix EVERY flare card into the deck! You are suppose to deal 2 flare cards per person, so they can pick a character. And then take those dealt flare cards + 2 extra flare cards and shuffle them into the deck!

I would have argued that The Tripler would not affect the new score because the human flare only changed it to attack 42 and that the verbiage says - after your opponent reveals an attack card of 15 or higher-, in which case an attack card was not revealed it was a flare card that got him to 42.

I very vaguely remember a different group of people playing this game. I can't remember who haha. Seeing y'all play this brought back very vivid memories from years ago: 0
edit: I just remembered! I watched Funhaus play the physical version of this like a year ago

I think this is my favorite Overboard. I've watched it maybe five times at this point. Something about playing a game that's essentially Calvinball masquerading as a carefully structured, rules-based experience is perfect for the chaotic Polygon crew.

Other Overboard games: Hm, I might try this.
This Overboard game: AHAHAHAHHAHA nope. The explanation at the start was like four minutes and there is still stuff being explained throughout the video, I'm pretty my brain is not able to handle that xD

Rulebook of 2011 edition, page 13:
-A flare cannot be used more than once per encounter, AND A player may use NO MORE than ONE flare per encounter. -
Brian: -Well, rules are more of a suggestion, just how many flare cards do I have --

Anyone else sorta reminded of Funzo from Wolf359? (Is that an actual game? I just realized it might be, I had assumed that it wasn't. I don't feel like looking it up, it probably isn't but I reeeeeally hope it's a real game lol)

at 35: 15 I thought I would go crazy for being the second opportunity of making an Eiffel 65 reference and no one would take it. But I guess I should've known our girl Simone would not disappoint!

lol how many flares did they include in the deck? Looks like they used way too many. Also, you cannot play more than 1 flare per encounter. Brian played 3 flares in that last encounter XD

The last play at 45: 50 was an illegal move -- A player can't play more than 1 flare during the same encounter. It's an important rule that limits the chaos (slightly)

In Portuguese, the game called War is what you English speakers would call Risk or MissionRisk, so I don't know which War he's talking about at 1: 16

For the -upset- power when she played a negotiate. Her card says must play an -attack- card if possible. So is she allowed to use a negotiate card like that?

I don-t think that last turn was done properly. That very last card played that divides it by 3 days -before- other effects are applied. They did it after.

18: 00 Jenna cheated by playing the Negotiate card. If an upset is declared then both main players are required to play attack cards.

Brian-s tripler card at the end only affects attack cards, which mean that he lost the encounter- I honestly was kind of hoping for a Pat win
