DESTINY 2 Micro-Transactions Explained

DESTINY 2 Micro-Transactions Explained

Wondering how micro-transactions work in Destiny 2? Are they a waste of money? We'll try to answer all the questions you may have! I dont think there is anything intrinsically bad about how these microtransactions are presented. However, the one time use shaders is a big no no. They should do something like how Path of Exile does their skins (not the prices, just the way they handle them) if they want people to buy multiples. Have it so you can have duplicates, but they are assigned to a piece of gear and unavailable to be used again unless it is taken off. This should, hypothetically, satisfy both players and money hungry publishers. It allows people to accrue shaders at their own pace and keep the ones they like, and also allows the devs and publishers to make money on people buying packs of shaders that they can make exclusive through bright engrams and bright dust.\r\n

T for Teen Gambling addiction. Start em young so they will feel obliged to buy into the system in the future. Here is a few freebies to get you started. You want more? Feel free to throw money endlessly until you get one possible item you desire. I don't see everything in those loot boxes available to be purchase with dust too. So don't want to wait for it to come on rotation? Buy more boxes! . I really do dislike this system and how gambling is even more accessible to youth. But I guess i'm not the target market. I enjoyed the first Destiny and disagreed with it's micro-transactions. With Destiny 2 being worse on this, I won't be picking this game up because of it. Thank you for this overview video, keep up the good work.

The paywall for shaders are a piss off. It's testing anyone who may have addictive personalities with literal gambling.
The biggest issue is really the one time use, because if you had to grind to get a matching set that would be one thing, but the idea of using the raid shaders only to lose them is bloody ridiculous.

im not into buying emotes and i highly doubt ill be using emotes in destiny but the flip table and the salty one would have to be the best 2 haha
you would have thought they would include some silver in the more expensive pack of the game lol no no no, talk about milking the cow at both ends

reply

Let's say it is 1 hour per engram. 35 hours for 35 engrams. Simple math.
Someone pays $50 for 5800 silver and can buy 7 packs of 5 engrams.
Just ask yourself: -Is $50 worth 35 hours of grinding for emotes and shaders? -
There's your answer.

Russ, you are legitimately annoying to listen to do a walkthrough you pause so much and completely focus on the wrong things, then you completely gloss over things that are actually interesting. Edit your walkthroughs a bit and speed up your pace please.
reply

Unfortunate that everyone's turning to random crates for microtransactions. I just want to buy the goddamn skin I want.
EDIT: Actually, can you buy bright dust directly, or do I -have- to decraft stuff from Bright engrams?

reply

If y'all stopped putting your shaders on garbage gear and saved them for exotics or the gear you're actually going to use past the raid and trials then none of you would have problems with running out of any specific shader.
reply

So you get drops of three shaders, and they have to be applied to individual armor pieces, you don't even get enough to change your entire armor to match in a single drop? That's such bull. :/
reply

Why don't they just make it like dyes in Guild Wars 2? Unlock specific colors or color combinations in your wardrobe for all characters, and charge a premium for specific colors or color packs.
reply

Eh, if they fix the issue with being able to keep shades I've got no issues. As long as I can earn bright engrams in game and I'm not forced to pay out for them, I'm fine with that.
reply

Man, I like that you can use shaders on pretty much everything now, but I liked to change my shader every day, so them being consumable is a gigantic bummer.
reply

Making shaders consumables in a game where you're constantly switching weapons and armor? Nice.
good video Russ, keep it up man proud of u

reply

So you get 1 of the curency for roughly 2h of playtime or 5800 for 50$? . Glad i watched this before investing more time in the game.

An informative video. I appreciate the neutral stance you took here, it's a welcome change from the other content about this.

This is a great video Russ But if Griffin had done it the video could have been called Carly Rae Jetpack to goes to the -store-

I enjoy how Polygon videos are split between the goofy nonsense comedy stuff, and the extremely mundane yet informative videos.
reply

Can Anyone Help me? I'm not sure where to find the stores on Destiny 2? What planets is it on? I need too knnoowwww!
reply

So how about that disaster stream earlier, though?
(Side note, microtransactions are objectively hot garbage]

reply

I was considering picking up destiny 2 but the micro transactions are a real turnoff particularly the shaders
reply

I haven't gotten any bright engrams and I'm almost level 20, you said they drop every time you level up right?
reply

No one should spend a single cent on any of this untill they make shaders not consumable again. I won't be.
