As a company of heroes 1 and dow 1 player. I am really looking forward to this, however there is some things that makes me wonder if it will be a disapointment. While it does seem like a step in the right direction considering dow 2 (Which i skipped btw) there is some things that seems to be missing.
KIlling blows?
Cover does seem to excist to an exstend but not enough to be something that can seperate a good player from the bad ones. Seems like there excist some mechanics regarding low and high ground.
Slightly cartonish graphics but not to much. The health bars seems to resemble the league of legends style and the bush cover/stealth. But i do think the graphics are not that terrible. Not like i would had hoped. but still not terrible.
Would had loved to see veterancy on units and as some said the moral system. Especially moral in warhammer because it has been such a brutal game. you want that feel of the enemy running in fear.
on a side note because some talked about it. I think Starcraft, C&C series, red alert are totally different games than what THQ has started with Company of heroes 1 and dawn of war 1. I Like to consider them as Real time tactical strategy games rather than just RTS which starcraft is more of. I enjoyed starcraft for its lore and campaigns. but i hated it in multiplayer mostly because it was more about being fast than smart.

I'll withhold judgement because I have yet to play the game so I can't say for sure, and I'm assuming this is only a late beta/Dev version, but it really looks like a lot of the complexity and depth of combat has been taken out. The cover system from DoWII and its sequels was experimental, but I thought it added a new dimension to the Warcraft 3 style -point this squad at that squad and they'll shoot each other until the other is dead- gameplay that had persisted as the norm up to that point. If it is entirely gone, then I'm sad to see it go, but otherwise the game looks like a return to form in terms of massive armies battling it out. And, if the intention was to have massive armies again, then I can understand why cover being applied to hundreds of units at once would unnecessarily tax the game.
Regardless, it's a new Dawn of War game, and I've been a Warhammer fan for years, so I'll play it and probably enjoy myself. Looking forward to seeing what this game has in store.

Everybody is slagging this game off already it seems. Or at least half of the people who have seen it. The sensible ones. The direction of DOW3 has clearly been made as such so they can fak us all over with DLC.
It happened with Total War Warhammer. Day one DLC and expensive at that. DOW2 was guilty of this too. Skin packs so that fans can play their favourite factions. Its a little unfair because these are no longer physical products like the tabletop I played since I was a young lado all those moons ago. Collecting figures and books and paying for those as a collectable makes sense.
Replicating those in digital and bleeding gamers dry is wrong. The game is so tactically limited in regards to battlefield gameplay that it would only make sense to do this kind of game if it was based on. dum dum dum.
power-ups/special weapons = KA-CHING! for the publishers/developers/wankers!

I'm sorry but. What is this? This does not deserve to hold the title of Dawn of War. Seriously, I don't want to hate this game but this game does not hold any of the previous elements that the previous titles held, other then factions and squad based gameplay but that is small minor things. Everyone here has stated the obvious, this game is trying to look like a starcraft 2 game instead of Dawn of War type game. I mean why are the space marines just dying left and right? There is only 100 per company so unless the entire chapter is there, that doesn't make sense, even if the entire chapter is there the number of eldar vs. Marine is still way to low. Look I don't wanna hate but this games flaws are so obvious, I really wanted a system closer the Dawn of War 2, with maybe a little more base building. Instead we get this. Just. Ugh.

The game has really lost its way since the original Dawn of War. there is no longer any sense of grittiness and the shiny graphical style make everything look so artificial, especially the maps, the unit models look like they are blue-screened against the environment. The weapon and particle effects are also way overdone, and I can see why there are so many comparisons to Starcraft. All they had to do was make a Warhammer 40k game with the core gameplay mechanics of Company of Heroes (excellent infantry and environmental interaction, base building etc, except on a larger scale, and they would have had a huge success on their hands (in terms of gameplay, not just sales. So far it looks disappointing to my eye at least.

To all the less-thans citing disappointment at the Eldar for resembling Protoss: Blizzard stole the idea of Protoss from GW's Eldar. They've admitted it and there was a lawsuit about it (and other infringements. So if the company responsible for that concept elects to have them in a video game, and those graphics and animations resemble the artwork and miniatures, then it's probably also going to closely resemble the graphics and animations of the faction ripped off from them.
Not sure what your expectations were with Eldar. Other than to look and behave exactly like Eldar. Which this game play confirms (unless you're blind. Anything different wouldn't have been Eldar.

The game is in a pre-alpha stage, don't even think about trying to judge its graphics right now. Although for alpha it looks much better then most in this stage. As well, I believe it is similar to SC however I would not go anywhere near saying it is an SC clone. I think its a necessary successor to SC. SC is unfortunately losing its edge. Has been for a while. Its somewhat inevitable. A game that gets as much hype as SC has gotten for 15 years will eventually lose its charm and charisma. Something new and fresh is much needed. But carries new and exciting and deep mythical lore similar to the concept of SC as a game.

No morale, no any kind of supression, no normal covers, no freakin' tactic, poor melee-combat animations, devastators, which can not cope with their weapons, but, yes! We have a shiny textures and Angelos sized Dreadnought! Dawn of Starcraft 3! Great! Game of the year! My last hopes in DOW 3 finally died!

wow first space hulk now this. There have been a lot of disappointing warhammer games lately. Thank god that vermintide and total war were really great surprisingly. It is kinda funny that the universe that games workshop killed off is actually the only setting with any decent games lately.
reply

Looks like DoW 3 is going to be the wet dream of every infantry spammer from CoH 2 and DoW 2, players that were able to properly use cover and suppression are being spat in the face.
This will be a desaster on Command and Conquer 4 proportions.

Looks great so far!
The only things that actualy bug me are the walking animation of space marines and their size compared to regular eldar troops, SM are supposed to be 1 of if not 2 heads taller and way bulkier but here they look so small: o

reply

Dont get the hate. I think it looks good. More like the first one, which is nice and more effects and mechanics each units can use. All in all an improvement. :) The only thing i miss is more factions. I dont like the future DLC milking.
reply

Well, it seem the Space Marine Lascannon has upgrade. Previously, the Space Marine Lascannon don't do continuosly damage in Dow and Dow 2 but instead. idk how to say it's like blink in the eye or taking picture with flash on.
reply

Doesn't Relic understand what made Company of Heroes so good? Why can't they use that gameplay design for the DoW games? This just looks like any other RTS but with slightly better graphics.
reply

I'll never understand why they removed the cover feature. Watching the units stand there lifelessly shooting without any movement, how could they look at that and think it was okay?
reply

Lord Emperor save us. Why you could not make a movement like CoH. They look on grenade and stand like idiots. Under fire they are dense groups. This world knows artillery.
reply

I feel like this person doesn't know how to play. I'm not impressed with this game so far I am really looks forward to another Dawn of War but looks like their going to F it up.
reply

Looks a bit more grimdark but dont forget the fact that Eldar units will have shiny particles they had it always Tau and Eldar are the least grimdark races of this series.
reply

the most boring in this: not shield generators on eldars, not morale system gone, not cover system. This is the most SHITYEST GAMEPLAY I EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE
reply

I'm seeing astartes marines dying left right and center. how big are the chapters exactly? and is it that one of these guys can conquer planets?
reply

Please, make other factions as DLC at least, not having chaos in this is just absurdly heretical, I need something to purge other than xenos!
reply

1. Need cover back
2. Units die way too fast
3. Too many unnecessary graphical effects (also need more gore and grimdark)

reply

This game sucks already. Just bring back DoW1 and re-release it. I will buy it again. Please stop this heresy that is Dow3.
reply

This genuinely looks horrible, I loved DoW 2 but this looks like every other generic RTS. What's happened to Relic: /
reply

Considering he is a noob player it still seemed relatively easy, outnumbered, no cover, poor skill usage and still wins.
reply

i think it looks pretty cool, hope they have mod support, i think not having good mod support really hurt DOW2
reply

0: 41 ironic in the 41 millennium the space marine scouts do not have radio for call reinforcements.
gg wp.

reply

Seriously guys? Starcraft 2 building and unit, mixed with the campaign of warcraft 3. No, just no.
