Grease was released into theaters 10 days before my 7th birthday and a few of my male cousins plus myself were given two movies that the whole group had to see together (we actually seeing the movies back to back on a Saturday/Sunday. They were Superman & Grease. The vote was 4-1 in favor of Superman. I was a furious 6 year old as I was the lone vote for Grease.
Though I am 100% comfortable being a proud gay man, this was the first time in my life I heard of Olivia Newton-John and I sat there in my movie seat not saying a word, I don't even think I blinked once because I was so captivated by her presence on the big screen.
The transformation of Sandy from the almost too-pure goody two shoes at the beginning to the OMFG when she strutted across the grass at the carnival in the finale. and that line (with her beautiful Aussie accent). Tell me about it. stud! I think it was about 30 minutes after the movie ended that I was finally able to pick my jaw off the floor.
She was my first crush, so much so that when Hall & Oates prevented her from spending what would have been a record breaking 11th consecutive week at #1 atop the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in late January 1982 with Physical (the #1 song of the entire 1980s, sad to say, I would turn the radio dial if a station played any Hall & Oates record and even though I have a collection of more than 500 45s, I never did buy any of their singles! LOL

Thank you, Mojo! I'm a stage 4 breast cancer thriver, and this disease needs more! We have cures for stages 1-3, but stage 4 still needs MORE! Also, though 99% of patients are women, men still get breast cancer too, and it's not always gonna show up as a lump. Report any difference in size/shape, toughness, tenderness, dry scaly skin patches on the breasts, inverted nipple, any discharge other than milk, and severe fatigue. Take care of yourself, early detection is still key!

My 1st wife died of metastasized breast cancer. She is one of the 2 people in my life who truly loved me without reservation. One was my mom, and the 2nd was her. It was diagnosed too late. I still tear thinking about the chemo she endured and my regret in not helping her diagnose it sooner. Women, please learn how to check yourself and see a doctor regularly. It can save your life and the grief and impact is has on those that love you.

Although not facing it himself a celebrity who has been devastated by breast cancer is Paul McCartney
Everyone knows this but
He lost his mother when he was 14 to breast cancer and then lost his wife Linda to it in 1998
He lost the two women he loved the most to the same disease

I can't believe it's been a year since Olivia Newton-John left us. I knew she battled breast cancer for decades, but never thought she would die from it as she went through several treatments. R. I. P. to her and my heart goes out to her family and people who knew her.

These ladies are warriors and survivors! A few of many! And it's good that they're advocating and spreading awareness about breast cancer. It doesn't get talked about enough in my humble opinion. I hope one day we can be free from the scourge that is cancer.

Olivia Newton-John was part of the I Touch Myself Project. She was actually on a cover of the song released after the original singer, Christine Amphlett, died of breast cancer. The project promoted self-examination and mammograms.

I'm a two been time breast cancer survivor. I had a double mastectomy when I was diagnosed the second time. I decided to go flat. I don't miss the bra. I never would have made it through without my family and friends.

Not that any of this is a competition but Kylie Minogue had the Kylie effect when her diagnosis became public seeing a large uptake in screening immediately after. All these women listed have created awareness

My mom is a survivor, after going through uterine and skin cancer.
It's been 5 years now.
She's a fighter, whether she'll admit it or not, whether she wants to fight or not.
It's innate.

My beloved aunt died because of breast cancer 18 years ago. It's still hard and painfull to remember her. But I know she was a wonderful person and loved us very much and that brings me a lot of joy.

These women are warriors! Wish you would have mentioned Shannen Doherty though. She was diagnosed in 2015 and went into remission until 2020 and has been documenting her journey as it spread to her brain.

My Dad had breast cancer. It took his grandmother, and several cousins. His sister survived. My Dad had his left breast removed. My sisters and brother have our mammograms yearly without fail.

Don't forget the men. Richard Roundtree, the original Shaft, was treated for breast cancer in the mid-1990s and is a very public advocate for breast cancer awareness.

It takes courage to face cancer. My mother fought tooth and nail right to the bitter end. I learned to be courageous and face things. My mom was the best.
