Any teen heartthrob and comedian really. The teen heartthrob though I wouldn't consider him a teen heartthrob was Sam Claflin, especially after seeing him in Daisy Jones and the Six. Yes, he looked older than how Billy Dunne was described in the book, but he pulled it off very well.
The comedians that I was surprised by were Eddie Murphy and Jim Carrey. Growing up, I enjoyed the first two Shrek movies and Coming to America. I was shocked when I saw him in Dreamgirls and Dolemite and he's a very good dramatic actor. I can't wait to see in the George Clinton and Richard Pryor biopics. Similar to Eddie, I grew up watching The Mask and was surprised when I saw him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I wish he did more dramatic work after that.

Carey didn't particularly convince as Truman when he was supposed to be someone who didn't know he was on camera: MAN ON THE MOON was more accomplished.
Adam Sandler here was bit of a cheat: After too much bad comedy business, taking direction and acting like a normal actor playing a normal person gets him credit he doesn't really deserve for just doing things right where another actor wouldn't be praised so effusively.
A pity that Charlize Thereon had to deglam so radically to be taken seriously; she had contrived to do silly stuff as though it mattered in MIGHTY JOE and THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE.
How about Deanna Durbin in CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY? Rob Lowe in THE HOTEL NEW HAMPSHIRE?

Well, this is just a list of some of my favorite movies of all-time. Not just the 10 that you listed, but the others that you mentioned like Brokeback Mountain. But Prisoners is up there and so is Dead Poets Society. Plus my favorite movie of all time is Good Will Hunting, which is another Robin Williams drama. He was incredibly funny, but I think he shined the most when he played dramatic roles. A lot of them I can't even watch now. Awakenings? OMG! I'd have a nervous breakdown if I watched that movie now. And after Robert DeNiro passes, it's going to be even worse.
I'm also not a fan of Jim Carrey's comedy, but I've loved his dramatic films.

IMO, Henry Fonda should definitely be #1 on this list for the villain he played in 'Once upon a time in the West'. In the movie's very first scene, he brutally guns down an entire family in cold blood including a small child. It was so shocking at the time simply because of the father figure roles that he had played throughout his career. Movie goers actually left the cinema after that massacre scene.
For those that aren't familiar with Henry Fonda and his movies, imagine if Tom Hanks had played the role of Hans Landa in Inglorious Basterds.

JLo's rare performance in the feature Anaconda took off like a hypersonic missile in the opening scenes. Why? Because of the camera-adoring shots of her 27 million dollar insured bottom, that's why. picture her as her dilapidated boat glides down a hot, steamy river with jungle overhang on each side. she wears a gauzy perspiration-wet see-through that accentuates her better half and the sight is Oscar worthy. I daresay NO actress alive in recent times could have carried that off with such form, except Jenny from da hood.

I love when actors go for different parts just not stay with the same part over and over again that's how great actors can be they can do every performance just not get typecast with the same character. I am a big fan of Dylan O'Brien and too see what roles he takes from the maze runner to American Assassin to The Outfit and Flashback he can play more then the loveable goof-ball in MTV's Teen Wolf show he can do more and is one of the best underrated actors out there.

While this list seems geared toward movies, special mention has to be given to Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad.
Cranston was known for playing comedic roles as bumbling eccentrics, most notably as the patriarch on Malcolm in the Middle. Watching him gradually transform into a sociopathic meth kingpin over five seasons as Walter White was truly a sight to behold.

Heath Ledger's Joker was so iconic and stood out so much that I feel like more people nowadays remember him as The Joker then for his earlier heartthrob roles. Who know what other similar, equally over the top performances he would have portrayed were it not for his tragic passing.

Most of these are comics making the transition from comedy to drama. That overlooks classic examples of the archetype going the other way, such as Leslie Neilsen. He was so effective in comedies like Police Squad and Naked Gun people forgot he was a lauded dramatic actor before that.

Brainwash
Robin Williams made his career initially with comedy but I couldnt stand him as a comedian. He wasn't funny at all. Not even a little bit. But as a dramatic actor he was awesome.
Jim Carrey was funny as shit early on in his career but his darker roles were way better

I would put also James McAvoy's Split performance somewhere. The movie is terrible but his performance deserves recognition. Also about Robin Williams, I like Dead Poets Society but it doesn't make me so emotional. However Awekenings is something that always makes me cry.

You picked right with Richard Pryor but he showed his range long before this movie in Lady sings the blues and The Mac he showed just how phenomenal he could be. Also it's unbelievable you didn't add Marlon Wayans for Requiem for a dream. Eddie Murphy in Dream girls

I doubt anyone will ever play a comic book bad guy better than Heath Ledger did, untouchable. Also its not Oscar worthy, but Arnie surprised me at how well he acted in the zombie flick Maggie, plus Jean Claude Van Damme in Nowhere To Run.

While Dead Poets Society may have brought Robin Williams' dramatic acting to our attention it is One Hour Photo that broke the mold. What a true gift his talent was. There will never be another one like him

I think performances in horror movies get overlooked: Jessica Biel, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jordana Brewster played good Scream Queens when theyre most known for their Pretty Girl roles

There's also Leslie Nielsen, showcasing his comedic talent in Airplane and The Naked Gun or Elijah Wood in Sin City, proving people than he's not just a pretty face.

Eternal Sunshine is my number one favorite movie of all time. Thought that was the movie they were gonna pick for Jim Carrey. However, Truman Show is top 5 for me.

It's hard not choked up at the end of dead poets' society. Those students standing in solidarity with Professor Keating always make me cry.

Adam Sandler is no longer worthy of comedy
That's why he should stick to drama, because it's where he can really shine
