One film that shouldve been on this list, or in the honorable mentions, was Disney Pixars Brave. It takes place around 12th century Scotland, and everything was completely historically accurate. I watched all the Blu-Ray bonus material and it showed that the filmmakers traveled to Scotland to study the ancient castle ruins and their layouts and the DunBroch castle is pretty much an exact replica of one of the ruins. The Highland Games where Merida made a scene has been going on in Scotland since the 11th century. The outfits, Celtic knot work sigils on the banners, and slang terms that they used were reminiscent of that period. The lullaby that Elinor and Merida sang in the flashback, Noble Maiden Fair, is an actual real-world Gaelic lullaby thats existed since the 12th century. And even the will-of-the-wisps are a real-world Scottish legend thats existed since then. And for the archery scenes, the filmmakers took videos of actual archers using the ancient techniques rather than todays modern bows and used stop motion technology to be able to animate all the archery scenes accurately

I am forever kicking myself for never seeing Moana or Princess and the Frog in theaters, both were such awesomely done movies, and I swear You're Welcome suits so many of my OCs just because of how they boast a lot, lol (but honestly, Be Prepared from OG TLK is their perfect song of choice!
I hadn't heard of a lot of these movies (and am sensitive to a lot of topics, so most war related things wouldn't work with me, unless they're fictional, but I have yet to see Totoro and Turning Red. I keep hearing how good the former is so would like to give it a try, at least.
I otherwise enjoyed Lilo and Stitch, Moana, Princess and the Frog, Encanto, and Coco.
I admit to preferring Book of Life though, when it got to Day of the Dead movies. But I wouldn't mind watching Coco again if someone else wanted to, especially since we only have streaming here now. I'd just have to get ready to tear up again.

Representation is important not just for diversity and inclusivity, but it also showcases the beauty and excellence of humanity and all the different cultures, peoples and ways of life, and it showcases that we have many similarities too in our lives and struggles. It also shows that we should and can embrace our differences and share and enjoy our different cultures. People who dont understand that I feel sorry for because they have very closed minds and may have hate in their hearts. Respect, equality, tolerance, peace and love for us all!

I personally find, that beauty and the beast had better French representation. Then ratatouille. As it for showed traditional French culture. In the rural countryside. Not just a stereotypical, strictly culinary exaggerated, barres & begets in the French setting of Paris commonly portrayed in modern media. And I wish there was more French representation, that was more than culinary. And focuses on some of Frances, unique and diverse cultures and its countrysides.

One repersentation that I've always wanted to see was the Marshal Islands I live in the south but the particular spot where I love theres a fair amount of Marshallese people in my school and they do have there own club where they will sometimes perform some of there native dances with the clothing and such. So a small part of me has always been curious and everything because I would hear them speak there own languge too with an accent.

Mulan was literally my introduction to Chinese culture. But I wont forget turning my head to see my dad getting teary eyed when Miguel sang to Mama Coco. It reminded my dad of his Mexican heritage and his grandma. My grandfather came to America from the border and made a living in California. As someone who doesnt celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, I didnt expect to find Coco so beautiful.

9: 57 my SO may not be Columbian but he is Purto Rican (im not even Latina at all ) and I was able to experience firsthand how much this film means to Latinos and Latinas he started crying halfway through and it was touching to see how much this meant and gave us both a moment after to explain and talk to each other about our own Abuelas that were like Abuela in the film

What I find funny is how a lot of people who see these movies and start screaming and crying about how this isn't representation, it's Disney being woke, and all I can think is is woke code for not being exclusively about white male protagonists? I wonder what their reaction will be when Disney eventually makes an LGBT main character in their movie.

How come Pocahontas wasnt mentioned for this list? The story may be fictional, but I thought it depicted Native Americans honestly by casting Native American performers for their respected roles, used some of their native languages, and accurately portrayed their way of life and struggles.

I believe animated cinema is the most exciting and emotional kind of cinema when it comes to cultural diversity and beauty. Disney Renaissance started it, now also alternative productions and the Eastern animation do their awesome job.

I feel like In This Corner of the World does WWII era Japan better than most Ghibli films. Mary and Max is also a pretty good representation of an adult living with autism in America in the mid to late 21rst century.

The Breadwinner is an amazing film! Also Soul which was made by Pixar was an amazing representation for the Black community being the first black lead character.
