Black Swan might have been a great movie if someone had stabilized the camera. I can't watch it without extreme nausea. But putting The Red Shoes--the movie that opened a thousand dance studios-, with only an honorable mention, and in the meanwhile completely ignoring Grease, with its high energy dance sequences is negligent at best; but then you give the nod to Flashdance, where the principal didn't even do her own dancing! Then you give a nod to Singin' in the Rain without a glimpse of far better dance sequences such as Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! What IS the matter with you?

The Red Shoes should have been number one. The things they did to create the effects for that movie were basically unheard of in the 40s! Theres a certain scene where a dancer takes a flying leap over Moira Shearer (I believe, and keep in mind that cameras back then were about 80 pounds or more. They had to take that camera and manage to move it up with him, essentially editing dozens of frames together to create the final 4 second jump. Major props to all who took part in it!

Piss off the second dirty dancing wasnt as bad as people make out. Dirty Dancing Havana Nights is a good movie and unlike the first movie which is amazing its based on a true story that actually happened and the woman it happened to was on set the whole time to make sure that they got all the details of her story correct and was even in the movie as Johnnys dance partner in Patricks cameo scenes. But I completely agree with you about the remake that just sucked!

Really? Singing in the Rain at 10? And no mention of American in Paris? And where the hell is Fred Astair? I would gladly substitute any of the these modern pop, hip hop dance movies to get Fred Astair on the list where he belongs. And don't even get me started with Turning Point. Channing Tatum made the list but not Barishnikov? Please, you need to re-think this whole list.

This needs to be two or three separate videos. One video for the greatest dance sequences of all time which would have Singing in the Rain number UNO & West Side Story. The second video would be movies ABOUT modern and classical dance art, like Red Shoes, Black Swan, and Center Stage. The third would be fun movies that HAVE dancing, like Fame, Dirty Dancing, Footloose.

The Royal Ballet in Prokofiev's Romeo And Juliet, with Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn. Top Hat and Swing Time, with Fred and Ginger, Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake, (not strictly a movie, The Bandwagon, Sweet Charity, West Side Story and The Red Shoes would all beat most of the entries in this list, (excepting Singin' In The Rain.

As always #MsMojoSOwhite: Here are the Black-led movies that actually INSPIRED many of the movies on your list. 1. The Wiz 2. Fame 3. Breakin 4. Beat Street 5. You Got Served 6. How She Move. 7. Stomp The Yard 8. Stormy Weather, 9 Cabin In The Sky and 10. House Party.

Nope, Strictly Ballroom needs to higher up on the list. It's way better than Dirty Dancing. And what about all those musicals from the 30's, 40's and 50's? Some where from the grave Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are shouting, Am I a joke to you?

Really good list and a nice reference point for future movie nights in our household! Perfectly fine to neglect the older stuff (Astaire etc) and not to include musicals like Grease or West Side story, as brilliant as they might be.

I think Singing in the Rain is one of the best movies ever, but does it really belong on this lust? Its a musical, so it should be top on a list of best dance musicals, not dance movies. Otherwise, where are Grease and Chicago?

Strictly is a great dance movie and deserves to be higher on the list IMHO. The most romantic dance sequence EVER filmed is when Scott & Fran dance to Perhaps. They express their love for each other beautifully through dance.

How does The Turning Point not even get a mention on this list? Not a very serious look at the great dance movies. Turning point was all about dancethe sweat, blood and tears and sacrifice it takes to make it. Try again.

They needed a top 20 for this category, cause their honorable mentions deserved a spot in the actual line up. And not just center stage but its sequel, center stage turn it up, deserved its own spot.

Singin' in the Rain should be much higher than 10. Also, I LOVED Dirty Dancing Havana Nights. The music was unbelievable. And Diego Luna is amazing. The remake, however, can suck it.

I personally feel like Singin in the Rain and Strictly Ballroom should have been way higher on the list (Singin in the Rain is a CLASSIC, but I'm glad Footloose was high up! :)

What about High Strung? I would say High Strung: Free Dance as well, but this video was made before it came out. Those movies gave me goosebumps all over.

With the conservative movement of book banning and don't teach about our history of slavery, the subject of Footloose is not impossible to happen again.

I stopped at Ten. If you do not think Singing in the Rain is not the Number one Dance Movie ever, I do not value your cognitive skills for anything,

black swan is not a dance movie. Portman plays a ballet dancer but ballet is only the pretext to tell a story of psychological suffering.

I'm sorry, but I must have missed the part where you said A Chorus Line was the real number one. Did the end of this video get cut off?

About Footloose: This plotline probably wouldn't fly with modern audiences. Did we forget it had a remake recently? And did fairly well.
