Thank you for checking out HEPT. I'm incredibly proud to have this film featured on DUST. This project was a true labor of love, built from the ground up with a focus on storytelling, mood, and craft. As a solo filmmaker, I wanted to create something that felt immersive and original, and I'm excited to finally share it with a wider audience.
I appreciate all the support, and I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Independent animation is a challenging path, but moments like this make it worth the effort.
Thanks for watching and supporting original sci-fi.
Huge thanks to Huascar Torales for his incredible support on the creature modeling, his work brought a vital part of the film to life!

I like the monster design, but everything else is meh/bad. The story has no logic, main character is completely braindead and does not think at all. It's just him following steps that should be obvious clues that he is being lured. Even at the basement burger he forgets the urgency/alarm of the previous minute. If you want to establish that a cookie or a burger is superduperspecial and warrants this superfocus, then you need to establish that before the event. End of the world sort of does this but we don't know the situation at all. Even the good part about the monster design suffers when the monster ambushes the human and completely fails to do anything, it 's just stuff flailing about.

I would've been suspicious about the bag of chips by the gate (expecting there to be other humans inside that might be hostile, but I'd be leaving the area in a hurry if I saw a random hotdog on a plate sitting on the steps of a house. How did this guy survive in a post apocalypse He has zero survival skills!
Anyway, a great film nonetheless. Really enjoyed it.

reply

The guy is a genius. You want to escape
Yeah sure.
OK just keep running down the street do NOT run into a building where you have cover. OK
At least he has brand new unscuffed blue boots though right
He doesn't seem too bright to me. The moment I see olives NOT stuffed with Pimentos I'm suspicious
I do admit it IS original and humorous though.

In combat awareness you should always be holding your weapon in a readiness state. In the first few minutes he’s obviously aware of something not right, yet he’s holding his rifle in the middle of the stock. And in such a way it would take much too long to engage an enemy, once he gets closer it’s perfect! Its exceptionally well done!

Honest opinion: Awful. There is almost no dramatic buildup once he discovers the second bag of chips - we know where it's going at that point. Why the endless repeats of that same idea That flattens the dramatic arc of the story. Never create a movie where your audience can skip forward without missing anything important.

OK, when I read the description, I went Woah! As it was not what I was expecting I started watching.
Now, the guy must be so hungry his brain was switched off. Unopened packs of snacks is one thing, but finding a ready-to-eat hotdog on a plate. as hungry as I might be, that would certainly give me pause for thought!

Gourmet aliens
Cooks a delectable meal made of that guy, while luring him in with horrible junk food and a delicious can of Dr. Shepper soda.
His GREED for food empty of nutrition, cost him in the end.
Soon, we, all of us, will be on the menu. Micheal Chambers, From the Twilight Zone episode, To Serve Man.

SO. FREAKING. AWESOME! Within the first 2 minutes I thought the director of photography should get an award! And it just kept getting better and better! I'm in awe that such small (but powerfully talented) group made my new favorite short sci-fi of the last decade!

All of the animation was lovely, truly lovely. The soundtrack matched the subject activity during the film -- wonderful! The main point I contend is silliness where the character believes a continuously stocked house is not controlled by a negative host.
reply

I feel like it was too obvious a trap. Then he acted too dumb. More drama if he acted more logical and the trap was less obvious. Like a bag of chips just out of reach or something. If you’re trying to lure him in, fine, but he acted silly.

Very clever premise -- exactly right for a short, whether a short story or a short film. And very nicely (ahem) executed, in every way: really good use of AI/CGI, crafty storyline, build/arc -- you've got quite a future. (If you don't get eaten)
reply

None of you realized that when the aliens 'probe' you, that empties out that part of your body, gives it a wash and a rinse, fills it back up with a special sauce with a secret blend of herbs and spices, then on the grill you go

vERY GOOD JOB! i JUST THING THE GORE OF mOMMY STICKING HER FINGER INSIDE THE MAN'S MOUTH AND KILLING HIM were not necessary, I mean, it was very good until that moment, then it got a little awkward. But I liked it.
reply

I get it that this's a kind of disaster situation, and resembles War of the Worlds, but this guy's really kind of dumb: why is he not thinking about why this food's simply lying out there
reply

You could see that after he ate the hotdog and entered the house he realized it was a trap and was hesitant to eat the rest. But in the end hunger won out and that was the death of him.
reply

Excellent! It would have been cool to see a scene where the alien showcased its OCD tendencies by straightening up one of the pillows when it was rebaiting the house for the next victim.
reply

Pretty sure shrek had a gargantuan budget and and entire team behind it- unless you’re referring to another Shrek that was produced by a single determined individual with free software but okay
reply

It's basically War of the Worlds, or a fanvid of such. Nifty idea set though; and the conduct would fit their tactics had they managed to survive the initial settlement attempt.
reply

I'm going to be critical on this;
The foley work could use more polish. It actually detracted from the overall feel.
Everything else, drew me into the story line. Good job.
