Clearly the dude is on a hostile planet. could be Earth or somewhere else. and he is harvesting a very specific resource which looks very organic. Almost like amniotic fluid. The creature the Harvester has with him can obviously process it into something useful. The healing effects are instantaneous when the Harvester uses it on himself. There is clearly some kind of relationship between the creature and the Harvester. Possibly symbiotic. The Hunters who show up clearly see the value in whatever it is the Harvester is refining. There was an odd noise they all reacted to and that's why they all took off with all the refined super healing potions the Harvest had refined.
Great story. I would love to know more. What world is this How did it get this way What is the creature Why is something seemingly so valuable being collected and processed like this What happened that resulted in some very advanced technology but also forcing people to relay on gear from the 1800s

I think this could be fleshed out into something if the intent is to produce a finished product that reflect the intro written above. Realizing it's a short a lot of what is described above was either not represented or needs clarifying. I loved the camera work, the spfx, Costuming was cool and budget conscious I liked the steam punky/futuristic vibe. Violence needs punching up. I didn't realize he'd been hit with anything until a minute after. I don't understand why the grub would want to go back to him, unless it truly is some symbiotic/codependent screwed up relationship. from the looks of the grubs design it doesn't look like it's very well suited for life in a snowy, cold world. I thought maybe we were going to see a reaction from the 'marauders' that the grub was one of their species in an infant state. Anyway. It's got a cool feel in a feature length with a little more backstory and scene setting you could really have something!

I really like the post-post apocalyptic atmosphere. The purely mechanical equipment. (Post cyberpunk some may say. The atmosphere was of straight danger. Animal kingdom kind of danger, mors tua, vita mea: your death, my life. Even or especially, humans are hunted, by other humans. Every part of the prey is going to be used. The man captured the grub and force feed him the samples he collected with his tool. Like we do with geese or ducks for foie gras. After that he squeezed some clear liquid from the grub. Maybe is as narcotic. That would explain why those attackers forgot about their prey because one of the group stole the harvest. A bond, sort of a Stockholm syndrome, is there between the grub and the man. In a moment of crisis the grub went to his keeper and they shared a moment. Their bond grew stronger. I like your movie, great job. Thank you for sharing it.

Ordinarily, if I can't clearly see what's going on in a film I won't watch it, I figure I'll miss too much of it to fully enjoy it so what's the point. This, though, beguiled me, gave me juuust enough to keep me struggling along, straining to understand what was happening, leaning into it trying to glean enough details to reveal the meaning of all the squirming, pulsating, mewling, hyperventilating muck and viscera being displayed to me.
All I could glean from it, ultimately, were the activities of a man-like vagabond who seemed to be sucking some kind of fluid out of the ground that he and his diminuative companion seemed to thrive on. were they junkiers I don't know but the film was interesting nonetheless and I highly recommend it.

Finally something worthy of the DUST sticker in weeks. Stunning visuals and presentation. The tone, the story. Attention to detail. Some really we1rd a$$ sh1t3. I wish Haywood would finally turn to something truly visceral like this. To all those who do not understand the story - it's about exploitation, survival, forgiveness and, eventually, symbiosis. The organism he uses produces some medium that can heal him. He then second guesses how he treats the organism, although you can easilly miss that step, it's so vague. He starts feeding it, even gives it some touch. He then almost gets killed by some other people, the creature apparently saving him. He goes on to harvest whatever the creature needs to produce the medium that keeps him alive. Correct me if I am wrong.

I hope this team gets money to make movie or a one season show with a nice scenario and world building. The first 4min 30s are already good: giving information about the setting, the place, this person, the survival tools, this vital dependency to these harvests, the horrific use of this weird creature and its pain, the lack of resources. all that without without any single word.
Damn, imagine a whole movie like that, without a single word or sentence, or just very few. Everything through actions, body language, maybe music, but songs without words.

WOW! This was a good story! KNARLY AS HELL! The story must be told in its entirety! When you really take an unbiased look at mammalian reproduction you find the same lifecycle as the Alien franchise. The male being driven by hormonal instincts to procreate like the FACE HUGGER endeavors to insemenate as many females as possible then the fetus forces the female host to provide nourishment during the ingestion period only to burst forth later to become US!

WOW! This was a good story! KNARLY AS HELL! The story must be told in its entirety! When you really take an unbiased look at mammalian reproduction you find the same lifecycle as the Alien franchise. Visually excellent. Looked real, believable. Puppetry was good. But then we just go back to let's do something weird and say we are really deep. Im sure they thought they had a story, but if does not relay to the audience, all you have made is pretty garbage. If the makers could find a writer( like anywhere and literally anyone other than who you had) then I'd love to see it.

I'm pretty sure we just watched a director with a swollen head who thinks he's special and frequently talks about his vision and the human condition. It's a good filler for actually knowing what he's doing, which may arrive one day if room is made for it to grow. Hint: take a look at the actual outline of a plot

Masterful filmmaking. Still thinking about the film the next day. Multiple thoughts and reactions to the small but powerful creature. How we react to its treatment would be a new criteria for a Bladerunner like replicant test for humans. World class cinamatography. Mike in Canada.

Really exemplary Sci Fi! Billions of human beings are living like this right now, and we have been since we domesticated animals and enslaved each other. What's past is prologue and the tech won't save us. There is no deus machina coming to our rescue. But there is hope!

okay whoo dont know what i just watched did read the description of the Harvester have many question's but i dont know exactly what question to ask so i am left scratching my head it was a bit darkish so i didnt get a good look at the creature he has

I was waiting for a gigantic version of the smaller creature to appear, and Harvest the humanoids, that were harvesting the fluid of the tiny creature. FAFO type of scenario. Everything is a harvestable resource for something else. Food for thought.

Normally in these short films there is a point or at least something you can follow. I have no idea what the hell is going on in this one. If someone is a Fellini aficionado and thinks he/she is the next up try harder. This makes no sense

As interesting and well made the scene is, I have a problem with leaving the audience to come up with reasoning. I understand that a certain amount of leaving the audience to fill in the blanks is good, but this was too much for my taste.

The baby alien (if it is a baby and appears to be alien) reminds me of the Alyoshenka strange story from the 1990's.

Why am I watching a video with thick black bars around it in 2025 Even my upscaler Chrome plugin doesnt't help. In fullscreen over half my screen is black. Downvoted on this alone 30 seconds in. Not even going to watch it.
