Don’t forget, they killed buffalo to starve the natives into submission and to genocide. The native used the leather of calves, yes but they lived with these creatures for centuries and had a balance. Upon arrival of the immigrants and colonizers, they als hunted these creatures for sport and pleasure, fuelled by racism. Don’t forget the saying Every buffalo dead, is an Indian gone

Great video!
As a brit who roadtripped. Would recommend the museum in Dodge. The guy who ran the saloon realised the west would end soon (1870's) and started storing stuff for what was the Beeson museum ( later bought by the boot hill one. So they have masses of random normal things ordinary people would use.
(something like that, its a while since I went)

Do other countries know about the old west Because it’s such an iconic time period in America, but for most of the world it was only about 50 years where not much happened globally.

Bison are sometimes called buffalo in casual use, but they are two different animals. Bison are native to North America and Europe, while buffalo are native to Africa and Asia.
reply

Settlers slaughtered bison because they knew bison were integral to natives survival so they were encouraged to kill as many as possible, without even keeping the meet or hide.

Seems somewhat glorifying, and mostly ignores relevant issues such as slavery and the genocide of Native Americans. A white guy’s whitewashed history of the Wild West.

Is it me or does the banjo and fiddle number near the end sound a lot like a Bob Wills song, even though Bob Wills was most active some time after the Wild West

Decimate == reduce by 10%. I get that words change meaning over time but this one is particularly wrong as the meaning is literally baked into the word itself!

23: 20 Seeing how Charlie Siringos hands move while playing that piano makes me understand why they made characters play like that in old cartoons

Hidalgo was less of a treaty and more of a man literally selling out his country for financial gain. Mexicans still hate him to this day

This is the difference between someone who immerses themselves in the culture versus some dopey military historian who just reads books.

My dad's mamgu (my great-grandmother) in South Wales allegedly saw Sitting Bull in the Buffalo Bill Wild West show in Swansea.

This is a bit of a non-question. Toilet paper was invented in the USA in 1857.
No-one was using toilet paper before 1857!
