Look, it's not a damned mystery-the Earth's organisms -could- be acting in concert in exactly the same way that the cells of our bodies act in concert for the whole. Indeed, even the internal mechanisms of our cells, the molecules that form matter, and the atoms that form molecules operate together, don't they?
The method of communication? An electromagnetic field. The ebb and flow of charge throughout the medium scrutinized, and at the level of scale viewed.
I offer no proof of theory, only that electromagnetic fields are seen at 29 orders of magnitude in the visible Universe, and conjoin -everything-, at -every- scale. Thus, we have a possible method of how the Earth might organize, control, and communicate with the various 'cells' of it's 'body', the way that flows of charge from our brains to various cells and back again do much the very same inside our own.
In closing, I again offer the above information as a method to deny the objections that the Earth has no method for which to communicate amongst its constituent parts-from lithosphere, to hydrosphere, to atmosphere, and all the organisms that live in them. Additionally, being in the electromagnetic field of the Sun gives each planet a method to interact with the Sun, offering electrons to the Sun even as it offers hydrogen ions (positive protons) back to the planets in an electric current.
Likewise, the 'bubble' of the solar system lives in a much more positively charged intragalactic EM field, where the same principle of communication resides.
On a more personal note: I believe do believe that the Earth IS a living organism, perhaps even cognizant, on a scale that we cannot perceive from ours. I believe that the 'alternate dimensions' that we strive to find in the Sciences, are not parallel, but rather -fractal-, and should in fact be called -Scales- rather than -dimensions- to better explain the concept actually, physically seen in the Universe around us.

I like to imagine the earth works like a giant plasma ball, you know those clear balls of flickering energy that when you touch them you can see the energy respond to your touch by connecting your finger to the core. I like to think this is what happens when we take off our shoes and walk on the earth. I also like to think that when we do this we download a lot of vital information and energy to mother earth and she rewards us with clarity of thought and extra energy. I think the increases in metal and emotional disorders can be attributed to not having enough contact with earth. This would be more the case in cities, which would explain why people in cities are unhappier and less energetic. As a child that grew up in a country town and then moved to a city as a young adult i can tell you the difference in people is palpable. Anyway, just a thought.

It's all about the way you want to view the world. People who look down or negatively about the world will not see that the earth and all of us and all life is really one being. Earth produced the environment for life, life grows on earth and therefore life is what the earth does. The earth people's, just like the apple tree apples. We are in a way just like the little nerve ends all over your body, the little feeling nerve ends of the earth, feeling all types of feelings and we are all saying PEEKABOO HERE I AM! I took way too much 2cb last night. So I can confirm that the earth is Gaia. For it is a living thing and we are slowly corrupting it. Filters change our view of things through the screen while. We increase the vibrance on our screens but let nature fade in 50 shades of grey. All 17 tectonic plates are enormous swimming orangismes that evolved over millions of years allowing us to be carried upon their backs. Ala the airbender, but what are myths and stories but passed down missed in translations truths. I'm either still really high or this is the truth of how what and the why.
Wouldn't that be the ultimate form of evolution, a creature that provides all live that it needs to sustain itself. Mind blown.

Universe is an organism. Galaxies are the cells of this organism -Universe-. I know my theory makes no real sense, but sometimes I think of this.

Please look in my Theory: What if the earth is I single cell in a living organism and this be like a blood cell with a cell wall/ozone layer of all the life inside a particular cell is considered a universe with other cells of similar types (multiverse theory) and breaching the cell wall is equivalent to a black hole taking you to other cells and organs but all of that means we are an insignificant spec of a whole life form and outside of that are other life forms similar and different to this. I need someone look into this for me.

Technically in a way the Earth itself actually is a living organism, in fact so is the entire universe. In it-s own cosmic way the universe as a whole is basically a living organism. It constantly keeps growing and expanding with with star clusters filled with galaxies that are basically it-s version of cells, while everything in said galaxies are the pieces that are what keeps each cell active and alive for all the life it holds in each one to survive.

Technically in a way the Earth itself actually is a living organism, in fact so is the entire universe. In it-s own cosmic way the universe as a whole is basically a living organism. It constantly keeps growing and expanding with with star clusters filled with galaxies that are basically it-s version of cells, while everything in said galaxies are the pieces that are what keeps each cell active and alive for all the life it holds in each one to survive.
