When I worked in fast food, it was rarely less than a 10hr shift about 6 days a week (for good employees, less favored employees would work 5 or less with maybe half the shift. Your availability didn t mean a damn thing and shifts were never consistent. You got whatever days off the scheduling manager decided. Only got lunch breaks of it was slow enough and we had people to cover them out (rare. Only smoke breaks were taken seriously but non-smokers typically suffered without anything. On your days off or off hours, you could expect your boss to contact you.
At Walmart now I get two 15 minute paid breaks and an hour unpaid lunch. 5 days a week, set hours. Only hear from your boss on off time if they have your number, and typically that much is rare (at least at our store. Mine only texts me to offer overtime and nothing else. Sad to say walmart of all places is a breath of fresh air.

I worked in a federal govt agency (retired. We get federal holidays, and for every pay period (2 weeks) you earn: 4 hrs of sick leave, 4 hrs to 8 hrs annual leave (depending on yrs worked. We never lose S/L because we don t pay for temporary disability meaning if we break a leg skiing, we have to use accrued leave or borrow against future leave. In case of serious long term illness, your colleagues can donate leave to you. There is no specific maternal or paternal leave. For annual leave, you can bank up to 240 hrs, anything more you lose at the end of the year - we refer to this as use or lose. Employees will donate rather than lose. After 15 yrs, you are earning 26 days of annual leave a year but generally your responsibilities make it difficult to use. It doesn t take long to fill your bank. When I retired all my unused sick and annual leave was converted to cash as did my time-off awards. I had a pretty good check at the end.

As someone who has been living in Spain for over 15 years i can tell you that many spanish companies don't follow the rules when it comes to respecting working hours and pay. Most of the time they'll force you to work more hours (without extra pay) and they threaten to fire you if you dont do it. They also pay very little, i live in the South and here they only pay minimum wage. I know people who haven't been paid or not completely for 3 months. The situation is the worst in the hosteleria (service) sector, so hotels, bars, restaurants.
The minimum wage in Spain is not even 1100, while life has gotten incredibly expensive the last few years and you cant find something decent to rent that isnt a studio for under 700.
Life is hard here and im hoping for a miracle so i can move to another country, which isnt easy as you need connections to find a place to live, a job, etc.

On Spain, in the real world, no siesta, no 2 hour meal, no (whatever it is) that thing with rice that you call paella (paella is from Valencia, a region in Spain. It's not very popular outside this region except for tourists, that don't eat the real paella 'cause it's not so good. For God sakes with the nice meals that we've and you fallen in love with the shittiest one. What the heck you put in your mouths, and we work until 8PM (do you want to kill us. No, until 6PM. And 1 1/2 days off? What? On friday, maybe, you work half the day. But 'cause you start earlier in the morning, so yo work the same hours.
So, I don't know where you get your facts from. But change the source.

As an office worker in Ontario, I get 30 minutes for lunch (which most often is brown bagged from home because 30 minutes generally isn t long enough to go find food, eat, and get back on time, and, legally, 2 15 minute breaks (which I seldom end up taking. Can confirm the 1 hour commute to and 1 hour from work, and it sucks! Ontario also passed a law whereby we get 3 weeks (15 days) vacation after you ve worked somewhere for 5 years (20 days at 10 years. However, I have 10 personal days, which includes sick days, 3 of which are paid - the rest are unpaid and generally go unused - which means sick people go to work because they can t afford to not get paid.

On the 12 hour we get three 15 minute breaks and one 30 minute paid lunch, the 10 hour gets two 15's and also a paid 30. PTO begins accumulating on first day, sick time included in PTO. And it can roll over to the next year. A lot of us use this outside of peak to supplement hours when they flex down for extra time off when the store orders are low. Or folks will use that time to put in for vacation. But that is awarded by seniority.

What do I think? I think there are other countries' workers that have what America should. I'm retired, thank God. I lost a job as a RN supervisor because I refused to come in when they were short-staffed. This was after I got stuck at work for 22 hours from a snowstorm the week before. No kitchen help made it in, no maintenance, it was only me & my night crew. And. I had to shovel four feet of snow to get into my car. I want to thank the ratpubliklans, starting with reagan for breaking the unions in this country.

I would work as a nurse's aide (CNA) or a nurse for two 16 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday and be paid 40 hours (and considered full-time.
It was beneficial because of MANY things: Five days off a week, no administration (like management) was present on the weekends, it felt like working one long day, and I was the nurse manager most of the time.
It is incredible how much a person can do with five days off a week.

CORRECTION FROM A CANADIAN IN TORONTO: We work maybe 6 hrs and 45 mins a day but we are there much much longer supposed to be working an average workday here is closer to 9 hours with a 30 min lunch and then also get hit with the hour long commute even from a point in toronto to another point also in toronto. Also employers definitely will contact u to work extra after work hours ive never heard a law thats says otherwise and if there is a law it definitely isnt well enforced.

At a previous job, we were working 7. 5 hours days with an unpaid 1 hour lunch. Meaning that we had 37. 5 weeks, 75 hours paychecks. Why not 40/80? That way they could give us overtime without having to pay overtime rates. If you went over 80, they would bank your hours, and when you had 8 in bank, you had a day off. If you didn't take those days off by the end of the year, they would force you so they didn't have to pay you those hours.

Your day ends when your stops are completed (typically within 8-9 hour) but if you get asked to help someone you're on overtime, and if it's November or December expect a 12-14 hour day. I bought some SPAM, fried one piece and put it in a sandwich (two slices of toast with one slice of American singles cheese and horseradish mustard inside it) and then put another fried piece to the side.

I have a bit over 38hr per week workweeks with two 12min coffee and one 20-30min lunch break included. 28 days paid holiday that does not include weekends (e. g. 5 days equals one week holiday. I would be happy with 35 days that would be awesome. (And no, this is not amazing here, i am still young so maybe i will get that 35 days someday or 4 days workweek)

If we call in on one of these days we get twice as many occurrences and after a certain amount of these, you're let go.
