April 8th 1950. Soviet Pilot Anatolij Gerasimov has the US Navy PB 4Y2 Privateer neatly positioned in his sights and fires the guns of his fighter plane. The Lavochkin 11 shudders, and a hail of bullets hits the giant American four-engined spy plane. Airmen bail out of the fatally damaged Privateer, parachutes blossom. While a Soviet rescue operation swings into operation, Gerasimov and his 3 wingmen return to their base to sign the pilot reports prepared for them, which assert the deliberate lie that the plane exploded - with no survivors

Love how they say it still classified from all those years ago. I worked UAV's (predators, Reapers) and they compartmentalized all of us so no one knew the whole picture by design. Even small trivial details and you think why? But alot those small things together make a bigger picture. On another note back in about 05 in the Air Force myself and another guy were on top of the wing of a C5 galaxy putting on a panel and this crazy C-130 rolled by it looked like he'll razer so many antennas, mts balls, weapos stations ports, tail boom antenna it had it all i have never seen that aircraft in a picture online to this day so must be way more secret than those king air c-12 and whatnot for there to be zero pictures of.

according to paul lashmars book ( Spy flights of the cold war ) austin asked for fuel and was told to ditch his plane and a friend of his heard this and without permission took a tanker from RAF Sculthorpe ( and not Mildenhall as the programe states ) He did save austins life but the programe never mentions sculthorpe or the fact that his plane had all markings removed before his flight, but the book does say that austin was told to take his own life and not to return to sculthorpe! I wonder why Dan has left the true fact out?

Some wildly wrong things here, specially about MiGs not able to reach B36/47 flight altitude. None of those bombers could get to 14k meters alt even in a lighter state while MiG15 had a service ceiling of 15k meters, even higher than F86 Sabers. The most likely cause of inability to intercept was probably time and position, B47 would have been too fast to get on its 6 on time which would have required a very precise GCI system which was not in place until the late 50s.

The pre-satellite era (at least the ones with digital imaging and encrypted radio links) was a very scary time indeed. Flying good men into harm's way was the only method to uncover Stalin's/Khrushchev's secrets in such an expansive country like the USSR. Experimental military hardware, WMD development, concentration camps, gulags, and mass graves could all be disregarded by decisionmakers as rumors and hearsay until the recon flights would confirm it.

This is an exceptional documentary! I've seen many, and as a war history buff, I thought I heard all of the big stories of the Cold War, both from the East and the West. Most docs I see these days are just sensationalist infotainment, reiterating the same well-known cases. Not this one for sure! What it reveals is truly shocking. So much for not leaving anyone behind.

The United States also funneled $2B to Sweden. To monitor the Exit to the North Sea. Then they had laid so many under water Sonar listen devices. The Soviets could not leave port. Without being tracked. This does not include the US submarines that would sneak in so close. They actually taken picture of a Soviet Submarine for 200 yards away.

The book Legacy of Ashes details the complete lunacy of the CIA and the cowboys who ran it in the 50s and sixties. They wasted thousands of lives and millions of dollars When asked about their reckless negligence they said we may not have accomplished much but man we sure had some fun!

Even since those days. it is clear who's the aggressor are but their marketting is so great that to this days the aggressor still claim they are the righteous ones and entitled to their hegemonic ways. Saddest part is actually almost everyone believed it. until its too late

A real danger of making up lies is that your adversary will then treat truth as a lie too.
Straying 'off course' was a repeated lie for US spy planes throughout the Cold War until Korean Air 007 actually strayed off course and 269 innocent people were killed.

This author seems to have a severe dislike of the United States. American intelligence is not nor was, as incompetent as this video suggests. We had sources he has no clue about what we knew.
Perhaps he should confer with his socialist handlers.

Just finished this book. Cross Kingdom, The Shiva-Gate Conspiracy, written by Reece McKnight. It is action packed and a true page turner. Highly detailed you will be hooked. The book can be found on Amazon and Lulu. Someone should make this a movie!

Notice it's the US and Nato flying over the soviets land why don't they leave them alone. Same with us haveing so many aircraft carriers, the soviets don't have more than one cause they ain't going around attacking the whole World

8. 55 the old I was only obeying orders line is trotted out. It seems that the only place such a statement is unacceptable was during the Nurenburg (show) trials following V. E. day. It aint what you say, it's who lets you say it!

The U2 being in Central Germany which was full Soviet spys would make anyone nervous. We were always dealing with spys in Germany I remember couple soldiers being caught and civilians working at base caught spying in are own unit.

Born and raised in the former USSR, I am ever so proud of my country, as we did our best to defend our sovereignty during the cold war. And to those claiming us a regime I can learn now the US was no less a regime in those days

Remember: when we do it you're supposed to use the terms 'surveillance' 'reconnaissance' or 'gathering intelligence. '
'Espionage' is what our adversary does. even though it is exactly the same thing we do to them.

The RB-69 was just as unremarkable as all the other types described, an off-the-shelf type (P2V) reworked a bit for the recon mission. It's weird that something different is implied by the documentary in this regard.

Thousands of soldiers on both sides died in accidents on both sides during the 50 year stand off. We are still fucced over by the mitary industrial complex. Time to stop the grift. Militarys only product is insecurity.

A RAF English Electric caught a U2 and flew past it at well above the U2's highest altitude. the American pilot was amazed. the Americans asked the UK to send a RAF pilot and Jet to see if the U2 could be caught

46: 38 the bloke in the almost sound proof cell, he sure heard a lot of detailed information about what was going on in other cells and who was in them. sounds a little like American propaganda.
