Download a free audiobook version of A Brief History of Time and support TED-Ed's nonprofit mission: Check out our full book recommendation: The earliest time measurements were observations of cycles of the natural world, using patterns of changes from day to night and season to season to build calendars. More precise time-keeping eventually came along to put time in more convenient boxes. But what exactly are we measuring? Andrew Zimmerman Jones contemplates whether time is something that physically exists or is just in our heads. Lesson by Andrew Zimmerman Jones, directed by Nice Shoes

So wait, if time passes the same for everyone, yet it seems different, then time is not a thing, as time itself cannot exist as itself. Time cannot exist without an outside factor, and that can be anything. So time is a dependent variable of the universe that relies on everything that happens in the universe. If you could split the fabric of time from the universe, then you would have nothing, as time cannot exist without the universe. Thus, time does not exist. Without the universe to show time, time cannot exist. But another question remains, is time different based on distance? We write time as the sun being the center of it, without it, time wouldnt exist (and so wouldnt life) But, if there was no sun but time still existed, how could we possibly visualize it? Light couldnt bend to show that the Earth is rotating at its constant rate, so thus, time is not a concept of anything, it is just a measurement that cant be visualized without an outside factor. This explains why on planets time seems to be faster, even though time everywhere else is the same.

My theory is that time doesnt exist the way we think it does, as it is something that we created. If we hadnt put all the numbers and timelines and BC and AD, then time would just be the simple effect of moving forward. No past, no future, no present. Everything that ever existed is just a part of a big story that has a beginning and an end, from Lilith to the Second Coming. Even if we create a time machine and try to alter it, things will still find a way to end up being the same, since if you tear out a page from this book that is called the World, the page will still exist, you just wont see it.

This video does an amazing job. at complicating time. Time itself is not a unit of measurement. Time itself cannot move in reverse because time can only be one of two things, on or off. When time is on, the matter that is on the plane of space does not stay in the same place. When time is off, the matter is at a total stand still. Hours, minutes, and seconds are essentially nothing more than markers to show three things; where the matter was, where the matter is, and where we believe the matter will be based on observations of how quickly the matter has moved from one marker to another in the past.

Time is just an indicator, it is just in our perception to understand physics of movements and what is happening. If you dont have any record about the past, it is just dissappeared and never happen again.
Practically, past is doesn't exist, past is just in our mind and recordings.
If time is runs slower or faster, it is just about the 'perceptions' of the object.

I do not know why but Ummm. I think that this question is SLIGHTLY related to why when in India it is 10: 00 pm while at the same time in America it 11: 00 am. After all of it in the video, the animation is awesome and the video is informative

The one man who linked physical world with time and described it as a physical quantity or how change of physical things effect in the change of time which eventually effect the change of physical objects.

A practical example, my son was going to oversleep this morning and I called him, he woke up and he's not late for work. Now I'm sitting here thinking yes time exists.

The word time just describes the phenomenon that allows things to move. A better question would be Does time exist if there is no life to experience its effects?

I use to Exist, until communication and socializations became media devices controlled by bias based standards.
Supposivly Joseph's name meant Time in Egypt.

Explained beautifully, i think when we start to make artificial gravity, high side of it can bend space fabric and we can slow time or step into other dimension
