Explore the psychology of the phenomenon known as cute aggression, which is the urge to squeeze, bite or pinch something cute. Watching a kitten fumbling around, it might feel as if you ve never encountered anything so devastatingly adorable in your mortal life. You may want to pet its soft fur and kiss its tiny head. But you may also feel the conflicting urge to squeeze or smush the kitten, maybe even stuff it in your mouth. What is this peculiar phenomenon? Joshua Paul Dale explores the urge known as cute aggression. Alyssa: Read the book Bubblegum by Adam Levine. It's about the things that are normal in society, but are odd and unsettling when given thought. In the fiction of the book, we've invented little living robots, which are not robots in any way, but are referred to as robots so people won't feel so bad about their urge to kill the extremely cute creatures. Anyway, great book that repeated depicts cute things being smashed, squeezed and eaten.

I believe the fact that we are born to be cute to grow up stronger and more competent to die in old age again like infants weak and needing care
This is literally biology or evolution trying to tell us that we are born to learn that we are supposed to get stronger in order to help the youth
And if we do a good job the youth will help us when we will need their help later on in our elderly age

I completely did not know this was a thing at all. And I still don't understand it.
So apparently half the world is unable to properly process the cuteness emotion and is overwhelmed to the point of wanting to lash out violently?
That just seems pathological to me. I don't get it at all. These people cannot be trusted.

I thought that cute aggression was also rooted in the feeling that you reallllllly don't want any harm coming to whatever thing is cute. So then your body enters an irrational mindset where you rather not see any harm come to it so much to the point that YOU'd rather be the one that does it and is in control.

Yes, I want to squish cute and adorable stuff -like my nonexistent gf- even though it sometimes seems like destruction and harsh and overall cruelty. Like seeing a baby chicken get out of egg is adorable and all, but sometimes you want to squish/stomp it to death, with cruelty, and feels off to do so.

Saw the title of this video and immediately sent it to my sister.
Just to let her know it's not really my fault I want to squish her soo badly
Thanks Ted Ed, no everytime she gets irrtated at me pulling her cheeks aggressively, I can say it's not really my fault

When my sister was born, I thought she was just the darn cutest baby on the planet. I always wanted to just squeeze her as hard as I could, which was funny because I don't normally want to squeeze cute things. She was an adorable baby, to be fair.

I literally do not have this feeling lol. Hand me a cat and I will cuddle it but not squeeze it. The most cute thing do to me is a desire to protcc the smol and crush all who wish to hurt it.
Crush enemies - yes, crush cute - no.

Our EMPATHY causes us to breed dogs with flatter snouts (pugs, bulldogs) which causes breathing/health issues. It's perhaps counter-intuitive, but people who are easily hijacked by strong empathy may make very harmful decisions.

I think it helps to remember that emotions are mostly very connected instead of being a see-saw. hyper emotions/physical responses lead to other hyper emotions/physical responses.
