Why 97% of Namibia is Empty

Why 97% of Namibia is Empty as a german I found one thing sad: you as westerner rightfully point the finger at Germany for its colonial oppression and the very late reparations agreement, but you entirely forget to mention that the track record of the other western countries in term of reparations sadly is -even worse-. Compared to the US, UK, France, etc. that German story sounding so terrible is sadly a kind of best case scenario when it comes to acknowledging colonial oppression and paying reparations, and thats how bleak the entire situation is in terms of colonialism, and you make it entirely look wrong as if Germany was just this one problematic case and the West would be otherwise fine, by giving no context.

I'm from East Europe. Over the years I've been with my cargo ship in almost all the big ports in West Africa, from Casablanca all the way down to Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. I've been in Walvis Bay 3 times and always had a nice experience. It's one of the nicest towns I ever visited, warm and friendly people. Unfortunately there are many cities in West African countries, where is not so safe to walk around by yourself (at least for me, but I never had that feeling or got any such info about Walvis Bay.
Even though it's surrounded by desert, for some reason it still remains one of my favorite places.

Question for any Namibians, I have traces my father-s ancestral lineage to Namibia, I am an African American (regrettably, any thoughts on if maybe my ancestors migrated to Angola or were even taken higher into west Africa for slavery? Where did people that migrated from Namibia tend to end up in Africa? May not get any answers but I-ve been searching

lets just hope Europeans don't assassinate or stage a coup against the Namibian government for that oil like they have for other African countries. But knowing large European companies lack of morality I'm a bit concerned for them. Never ask American and European oil and lithium companies if they ethically acquired their resources.

I wanted to mention the bad pronounciation but -JonnyCobra- does that better. One thing I want to add is that just because some people are white and wealthy in Africa does not mean that -colonialism still exists-. If you run a farm for five generations, then you belong there. When does someone become an african in your eyes?

I remember seeing a real expensive looking Mercedes coupe in black with tint windows in Windhoek once, had a single siren on the roof, I walked once from Walvis Bay to Swakop in the middle of the night, took 2 days to recover after but is a great memory I wont forget.

A very well researched documentary. I know the narrator sports an American/ Canadian accent but to pronounce Namibia-s capital, one refers to its Dutch/ German origins so Windhoek is pronounced as -Vint hook, - meaning -windy corner. -

TLDR: The sea is a cold sea with cold water coming from the arctics through the Benguela Sea current. Which means there is no rain coming from the sea and why Namibia is one big dessert. No rain and no water means no human settlements.

Love the video, it was educational for me as a proud Namibian and I hope it was for anyone foreign -
-I just had to laugh out loud for that pronunciation of Windhoek though, just to clarify, it-s pronounced Vind-hook.

reply

Blah blah blah. If you dumb down and repeat everything so that US-Americans can follow, nobody in the rest of world will be interested.
And please look up the pronunciation of Namibian names such as Windhoek.

The nations, especially the Germans have much to answer for when Yah returns. All the resources they stole from his lands will be accounted for. APTTMH! ----

Seriously you're such a ginormous platform on here, and you couldn't look up how to correctly pronounce Windhoek before making this video? My god it was cringe.
reply

Damn whites should just leave Namibia. I'm sure the native people's could figure out their own farming, diamond and oil management systems.

At independence, 23 years ago, the population was less than 1 million. I was there. Learn how to properly pronounce Windhoek and Namib
reply

Because 97% of the country is an arid desert.
Now you don't have to watch a 20 minutes video to find out, you're welcome.

Great video. Learning a lot. One thing. Apartheid only lasted 46 years so how can the Apartheid regime have ruled for 71 years?

My guess is most of the people who used to live there died of AIDS. They don't want to talk about about this.
reply

Not sure why you are using the Drakensberg mountains over 1K Km's away as a reason for Namibia's lack of rain

Don't try to say the country is the same size as WESTERN EUROPE, Its a third the size of WESTERN EUROPE.
