The sultans yacht HH Glasgow was actually built as a gunboat in 1878, armed with 7x 87mm guns. She was one of several Zanzibari gunboats, the others were Dar ed Salam, Chukwani and two smaller steam gunboats one named Chwaka. Dar es salam was in Oman when the war started, Chukwani was captured and Chwaka and several smaller Gunboats were sunk by HMS Raccoon.

In the video game Bully you can go to the library and spin a globe sitting on a table. If you do it tells you a hilarious and sometimes made up fact about the world. And it mentions this war lasting only 38 minutes. I thought that was just made up like the Australian war in the GTA universe. I was shocked to find out it was real.

Zanzibar was the center of the 1, 000 year long Arab slave trade out of Africa. African men were taken, castrated and sold as eunuchs to the princes of Arabia. Anyhow, by the time of the Anglo-Zanzibar war, Britain was effectively policing the world against slave trades to the best of its ability.

You missed out the part when PRO-SLAVERY Germany backed bin Barghash with firearms. They wanted him to succeed in order to profit from the slavery. Nice huh. 1896 and Germany wanted to turn people back into slaves. Of course, they'd manage it again during the Nazi period.

I would love to see a video from you regarding the history of Zimbabwe and how they came to be under current sanctions. Seems like the West has given them a rough time and punished them for being quite fairly miffed. Complex mess.
