Would-ve been good if this video had focussed a bit more on how the link between bt cotton and farmer suicides is still fairly contested in the academic literature. The video asserts that the introduction of Bt cotton is -central to the crisis-, but there are a bunch of different contributing factors including shifts in crop prices, urban economic downturns leading to inexperienced farmers entering the sector, govt subsidies benefiting the seeds and fertiliser industries, shady lending practices, climate factors and social issues. The rise in rates of suicide in India also pre-dates the introduction of bt cotton by a number of years and there are some states where the introduction of bt cotton is actually correlated with a decline in suicides. It-d probably be more accurate to say that based on what we know the introduction of gmo-s are possibly a contributing factor to increases in farmer suicides in certain states and circumstances.

'GM crops need more water'? Whoever researched this did a rather poor job for something so critical. Throughout this video, it's apparent that they didn't really have an agricultural scientist available to explain the basics of half of what they're talking about, and here's why.
The only reason why they need more water is not because of the genetic modification, but because of that seed with the trait being of a different cultivar, so that cotton could've come from the US or China where it would've been used to drinking more water. Over time, they can breed the Bt trait into local varieties which, if they wanted so, used less water. This happens with all crops with a notable trait, not just GM crops.

GMOs are a great thing, but attaching monetary greed is what ruins lives.
I f-ing hate money. At least at it's current egocentric form.
I earn enough to not be considered a -sore looser- of the system, but I know how destructive this all can be.
I personally don't care about keeping money for myself, but rather spend it for people around me. But even I have a limit and can't singlehandedly heal the damage money has already done to society
We need to make a fair system, that punishes wealth-hoarders

-GMO opponents say it-s important to remember that not a single existing crop is the result- - just plain lies. The vast majority of food crops have come out of commercial plant breeding organisations (not from farmers) and most as a result of mutation breeding - use of X-ray, gamma-rays or mutagenic chemicals to mutate crops and seeds to create vastly more varieties - some of which will contain traits of interest!

I think the scientific advancements of GMOs should be welcomed; but their societal and economic implications are trickier. Modern capitalism exacerbates this by rewarding patent developers with unfettered monopolies; a more balanced approach, where developers could be rewarded without the exploitation of the farmer who use their innovations, would be ideal. Unfortunately our world is still far from ideal.

I am supporting GMOs, however I hate the patents on them and definitely the ones forbidding or banning farmers to return to native seeds. Nature is for free and for everyone to benefit from, GMOs are a product and there can not be any limits on how a farmer uses them.
GMOs are unavoidable, but regulations should support farmers and not seedbanks.

-Not a single existing crop is the result of modern science- What about atomic gardening?
You could call the traditional picking and breeding plants with certain traits is genetic engineering, just a lot slower in my opinion.
To me it seems like the problem lies with the legislature, corporations exploiting people as usual, not the technology.

I still remember when almost 20 years ago I was reading the first articles about the impact of GMOs, patents and biological piracy by big corporations.
Curious to see how, despite the glaring warnings, things still devolved into a one side deal. Most governments did nothing to protect their citizens and their agricultural sector.

Vaccines, GMO's, and nuclear power. Three technologies that could solve many of the world's issues and we don't implement them to their full potential. Why, because idiots form the bulk of modern society. Too caught up in the fear mongering media and conspiracy theories, without knowing the science. And not even willing to learn.

I feel like it didn't become clear why GMO seeds couldn't be safed for the next year, or shared with neighbors. It sounds like it's due to legal reasons but I've heard that some GMO seeds are modified to grow sterile plants.
