How Do Oceans Circulate? Crash Course Geography #9

Today, we're going to take a closer look at how the oceans circulate by following the life of a discarded water bottle as it gets snagged in the North Pacific Garbage Patch. We'll talk about what causes the movement of water, called current, both near the surface and much deeper in the oceans, and we'll show how they follow similar (but not identical) paths to the winds. Ocean circulation plays a huge role in cycling vital nutrients within the seas and helps us transport goods on ships across the globe and it's up to us to protect it

as amazing as ocean circulation is, it-s devastating how it also pushes most ghost nets and lost Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs) all across the world which traps turtles, sharks, rays, etc and threatens these species. we need better management plans to tag where trash comes from and help pick them up

Just a thought (they might be too simple, should the UN be the one to hire a company from somewhere to come and clean up the garbage patches? Or am I putting too much faith that they would actually WANT to get those patches cleaned?

In the Northern Hemisphere, ocean gyres rotate _clockwise_, due to the Coriolis Effect.
In the Northern Hemisphere, cyclones rotate _counter-clockwise_, due to- the Coriolis Effect?
I'm missing something here.

Not related to this but could you do a video about Eudaimonism? I have ethics but I think crash course makes topics like the one I mentioned make more sense.

Fascinating episode, but it was hard to not focus on the giant trash problem going on and kinda overshadows the awesome science of ocean circulation lol - rip.

Responsibility must go to the producing company and the end user combined. They both with synergy could tackle the problem.
