From the ancient Egyptian game of Senet to the Aztec-s Patolli, games have been played since the beginning of civilization. Today, your host Andre Meadows is going to take a look at a few of these games, including some that are actually still played today, and talk about how they-ve influenced our modern board and video games and why they have had such staying power

Hi Andre Meadows, Have you looked at the social beliefs, culture and how they order themselves in life plans in order to see if that has any affect on what type of game is played or what effect the game has on society? Abit like the chicken or the egg question. What affected what first, games on people or people in the construction of a game or both. Is it possible to figure out what a game does by when it was introduced and why and what happened after?

Snakes and Ladders is designed to show you that you don't have control of your life and it was originally very hard to finish because you would keep sliding down and having to restart.
As I understand it was supposed to teach you about life-death-reincarnation and the struggle.

I'm glad you didn't skip over The Royal Game of Ur!
But, I wish you had mentioned the gaming pieces (including normal D6s) at Harappa and Mohenjo-daro circa 2500 BCE. Also, the major battle of the epic Mahabharata was precipitated by a game of dice.

I am almost 60 and grew up in the outback of Australia. As a child we used sheep knuckles to play a game that had a series of increasingly difficult challenges. By the time I was a teenager those knuckles were the same shape but smaller and plastic.

I think this should be linked to any dumbass anti-gamer like Jack Johnson and etc. To make them realize, that gaming has been around as long as civilization has.
Being a non-gamer, makes you an uncultured barbarian.

-While we may no longer believe that games can predict what kind of afterlife is in store for us or who we should marry-

Records show that the Aztecs bet the clothes on their back, their whole houses, or even their daughters into slavery.
Furniture is an understatement.

South America? Patolli was played in Central America not the south.
If you wanted a south American game then Komokan or Taptana would be good
