Today we're talking the heart and heart throbs thetnta: So I'm not sure about this because I'm also studying an online anatomy and physiology course at the moment, but I think your information about CPR and defibrillators is misleading. To my understanding defibrillators are used when there is ventricular fibrillation. But you also mention flat line, which is asystole, and in that case, CPR is the common procedure and defibrillators are not effective.

This is fascinating! If the SA node controls the pace of your heart, how does your brain make it go faster or slower? Maybe by changing the environment at the node so it depolarizes faster or slower? And if the SA node controls the AV node, what does it mean for the AV node to have its own rhythm?
I suppose I'll trawl Wikipedia from here. So many questions!

I was repeating what I learned in this episode to my teenage son over lunch one day. He paused for a moment to pensively chew his food and said, -So. they use the universal solution of 'turn it off and back on again'? - I almost choked on my chicken with broccoli! Also, I love that boy!

Technically, you CAN save someone by pounding on their chest. It's called a Precordial thump, and though its only used in the worst of situations, it is taught to doctors and emergency medical staff.
