In the second half of our look at the endocrine system, Hank discusses chemical homeostasis and hormone cascades. Specifically, he looks at the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis, or HPT axis, and all the ways your body can suffer when that system, or your hormones in general, get out of whack. A minor correction: Glucose component parts are not used to produce ATP. Instead, the energy released by breaking down glucose is used to form ATP (from ADP and inorganic phosphate. The glucose components (together with some oxygen) instead end up in carbon dioxide and water. Or if you are out of breath; in lactic acid.

I REALLY wish that in talking about autoimmune problems with the endocrine system, Hank had mentioned that Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, not something caused by eating a bunch of cake.

Hank: -You probably know someone, most likely a woman, who has a thyroid disorder. -
Me, taking my levothyroxine: -Wow, I don't think I do yet! -

My friend doesn't just have a dysfunctional thyroid, she straight up doesn't have one. She has to take supplements to keep her alive.
