In which John compares and contrasts Greek civilization and the Persian Empire. Of course we're glad that Greek civilization spawned modern western civilization, right? Maybe not. From Socrates and Plato to Darius and Xerxes, John explains two of the great powers of the ancient world, all WITHOUT the use of footage from 300. Re

Saying the Babylonians didn't have slaves is a lie. in fact most of their soldiers were slaves. where does he get this from? Where do you think slavery came from? -facepalm- Slavery still exists. people are just not aware of it. If you don't think many people in China aren't slaves then you need to look into the child sweat shops and the other atrocities they endure. America still supports slavery. 'sigh' This new 6666 bill will make us all slaves. The 4th Reich is real! In the end he says it would have been better if the Greeks lost? So i suppose he supports Communism. wow

The point of being alive. Out hear in space the experience of being alive is probably something worth having. Worth having in so many places I don't understand. At some point you got to start somewhere with doing the living. Live and you shall experience. By no means have we conquered all aspects of living. That's something for the future to come if the living permits it.

We Americans abolished slavery and we achieved this through Democracy that the Athenians invented but Athenians had slaves so its not worth talking about them. As the videos says in that era it would be best to live in Persia where there was both slavery and non-democracy! Sounds a bit paradoxical! You cant erase the advances of a civilisation based on its faults.

I switched from watching that other history playlist to this. Glad that they actually look at both sides of the conflict properly--not justifying everything with -but Western Civilization! 11- and give credit to non-Western peoples and their achievements, not simply exoticizing them. (Or, ugh, sensationalize them as some kind of scary rabid force)

I love how John Green just took the time to do a Music Man reference that literally none of the
students watching this are old enough to understand, he is just pandering to the teachers ---

The right side always wins, being -right- is one of the perks that comes with winning. You could say the Persians were beating people up for money without taking on any leadership obligation, instead of making it sound -pretty sweet-

Man I-m persian and have always believed our history was underrated but damn we didn-t have slaves. I guess we ARE really spiritual and phylisophical. We-re like the same as Greeks but at the same time so different.

Well defending the invaders is kinda weird. Western imperialist powers did and do brutally invade countries with authoritarian or less-than-ideal regimes. That doesn't mean that those invasions are warranted.
