I recently visited the Art Institute of Chicago and got to see the painting Nighthawk (among other things. One of my fellow visitors had forgotten to turn their camera flash off when they took a photo of the painting. A guard ran over and gave him a stern talking to. Not allowing flash photography is a smaller example of preservation efforts of art.

I'm a history grad from A&M Kingsville, and so many of my professors taught me to look beyond just written documents for historical understanding. Paintings and art from different eras reflect aspects of history from different viewpoints, and that there is no one completely true account of human history.
