Does Seafoam Actually Work in a Car? (with Proof)

In this video I test Seafoam in a Honda Civic Si. I use a mini borescope camera to look into the engine and see how dirty the engine is before the fuel treatment and then after the fuel treatment. I followed the instructions on the container and seafoam did a great job cleaning a good amount of carbon off the piston head. I am impressed by the results and finally we have proof that seafoam actually works!

Don't forget that it cleans intake nozzles and this alone will give a performance boost. Removing carbon usually does not give that much if any boost. Most sluggish performance is from the injection nozzles being coated with cheap gas additives. Better to just use better gas in the first place. If you bought a used car, cleaning the intake nozzles would be a good idea. The last time I heard someone say it's time to burn out the carbon build up was from my father (a jet mechanic) racing down the road with my 400cc two stroke Yamaha redlining it in 2nd gear. He had so much fun. Oh, and if you must run the snot out of you engine, if you do it after a light rain as the added water vapor in the air will prevent it from detonating (a two stroke thing. If you drive up a steep hill and you vehicle pings doing so, it's detonating. My old truck did so and going to Exxon high test solved everything. All Exxon gas burns very clean in my vehicles, even regular. Do the test if you like: run on Sheetz gas for six months then check your spark plugs (they turn gummy black) then use Exxon gas for six months and the plugs are lightly grayed - - with no residue. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

The results clearly prove little to no real results. These miracle additives in a can are bandaid resolution for vehicle neglect. As a Mechanic for 35 years, regular oil changes, coolant flushes, and maintenance is the only way to go. High carbon build up would be better removed by the introduction of h2o. Save your money on the aisle of auto zone additives.

Theres not a damn thing wrong with that vehicle. What your going to end up is messing up the cat converter by using seafoam. I dont recommend it.
The only thing your doing is introducing moisture into the combustion chamber which is why there us smoke coming out the tail pipe.

Hi chris, I was wondering, is it possible to directly spray it through the hole where you insert the camera, let it sit for 30min - 1 hour until it dissolved all the carbon deposite, then start the engine to removed the desolved carbon through burning?

How did you shut off the car, while at the front of the car? Most people have to shut their cars off from the inside, so how are they going to spray the seafoam and shut the engine off at the same time?

First hydro is short for water which isn't in seafoam. Plus what an odd description. How about read the can? The other fuel system cleaner goes in the fuel tank and has a different description.

I am more concerned with the intake valves and guides on a GDI then the combustion chamber. Would be interested in seeing the diff with the intake valves after seafoam.

I know we only looked at the piston and cylinder but I wonder what it did to the valves and injector tips? I hope more of the same. Thanks man great video.
reply

The back side of the valves is what I would be interested in, the minor amount thats cleared off the Pistons is mostly irrelevant on a street car

But wouldnt the carbon have to pass through the catalytic converters? Wont it get stuck and cause the cat to clog in the process?
