back in the 90s and Early 2000s Huntsville was a good respectable town, but over the years it REALLY has gone downhill, more and more places that were around when i was a kid are long gone (Skate Odyssey, Skate Carousel, Hollywood 18, Joe Davis Stadium etc) locally owned businesses are disappearing more and more, the people are super rude and given its a town full of engineers thats not too surprising, the schools and school system is horrible along with the people running them and working in them, the private schools are even worse, the police are VERY corrupt and have had multiple lawsuits filed against them over the years for excessive force and civil rights violations and are being investigated by the FBI for corruption, their chief is one of the worst human beings alive, EVERY single interaction ive had with HPD has never been a good one, theyve always been SUPER rude, theyll pull you over and ticket you for any reason they can think of, every time i had to go to Huntsville over the past few years i ALWAYS see at least 2 people pulled over every single time, they also threw tear gas and shot rubber bullets at peaceful protestors and sent many of them to the hospital, they also love to hang around African American based communities and harass people and treat homeless people like complete garbage
theres not much to do, no tourist attractions aside from the Space and Rocket Center (which is really all Huntsville has going for it aside from The Arsenal, Downtown is super boring, theres little to no shopping downtown, the restaurants are mediocre and often overpriced, the downtown apartments arent as big or great as you might think, theyre also SUPER overpriced, Five Points is the historic rich people neighborhoods full of even more overpriced houses until you get on its outskirts and find the poorer low income neighborhoods, No nightlife other than the worst honky tonk clubs ive ever been to, the poverty has only skyrocketed in the past decade and dont even get me started on all the homophobic and racist views the people running Alabama have
but people say Oh but the cost of living in Huntsville is so cheap! yes, and theres a reason why its cheap, because Huntsville isnt all that its hyped up to be, Alabama might be number 1 in college football but they rank last in education and quality of life, most of these US News and World Report sites have never even set foot in the cities, they just rank it off of statistics on paper based on jobs and cost of living, Huntsville may look like it has alot of jobs but thats only because of all the engineering jobs and jobs on the arsenal, the jobs arent everywhere for the average person, almost everybody i know that still lives in Huntsville is struggling to find work and have been for a large number of years now

Born and raised around here, and it's frustrating to see how fast Huntsville is gentrifying, and pricing people out (families that have lived there for years having to leave because they can longer afford to do so. And just how much of it is a big suburban sprawl (I'd struggle to really call Huntsville, outside of downtown, a city. And for those who can't drive Getting around the city is hell, considering the public transit situation especially for south Huntsville since the city government opted to just remove that part of the transit routes. (Let's not even start on the traffic situation getting increasingly worse as the city grows and the city government actively makes it worse by doing stuff like adding another lane to say 565, or other roads)
There are some good things in Huntsville, but for those of us that can't really afford to live there (whether looking to move there, or being priced out) It's just frustrating to observe. Like I enjoy some of the hobby hang outs, like The Deep, or all the local cafes (There's I think two or three coffee roasters in Huntsville. I know Rooster's Crow is pretty good.
Definitely worried about the effect of people moving to work in Huntsville causing rental and housing prices to go up in nearby towns like my hometown. Apartments are getting increasingly expensive here, and a lot of it has to do with people moving here to commute to Huntsville.

Coming from small town Ohio, and previously St. Petersburg Florida, and Kansas living for awhile, this is by far our favorite place! The old history, Space and Rocket center, the Big Spring Park, the fact we can go be in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains very quickly to the beautiful Alabama beaches in a few short hours. Many big cities are so close, like Nashville, Atlanta. It’s the perfect spot! We love all the many dining and shopping options so close also. Hope you enjoyed your stay!

I wished this would quit being put out there. People are coming in and running the natives out. It has become to expensive for natives. There are virtually no rentals unless you pay double what they are worth. The middle class is starting to have not much of a chance here. People from other states that sold their homes are coming in and buying all of the homes and at a very inflated price for what this area has been. Apartments have skyrocketed and have waiting lists. Huntsville is starting to spread out into the country where our farmers ate running out of farm land.

The run down building was J. C. Browns Store. It was a awesome place to many. Across the street was a movie theater. It has so much history in that neighborhood. Huntsville and surrounding areas are new homes building on what was once corn fields and cotton and soy beans. Was born in Huntsville Hospital and that is probably where I will die. Huntsville Hospital has grown huge and now has a lot of great physicians in every field practing medicine. Thanks for doing this video.

Moved here from California over 2yrs ago its nice and pretty. Though if your not from the south expect alot of bias its difficult meeting people here aswell. Alot of big city industries don't exist here. Oh! If you don't have a degree good luck getting a decent job been in entertainment management for 7yrs last position was a director of a studio in LA and I find myself traveling constantly for work.

Yes, lived here all my life. I have a house in Toney, about 3 miles from the city limits. Although I like Huntsville, it's getting crowded. It's time to move a little further out away from town. What I have now is mine. So maybe I can rent or sale this place. It's finding something that fits my needs is a problem. But it's a nice area, as long as the land is useful than it will be fine.

However, after 7 years as a resident, it is a unique and interesting place and it saddens me that ya'll kinda missed the mark. I hope you had a better representation of Chattanooga, your next stop. that is another Gem of a city!

Huntsville is a suburb of Nowhere. It's like every franchise business in the country puked up its wares in a place with no planning or vision. Every city planner should visit this place to see how not to deal with population growth. About the only place in the town that resembles a town is Five Points. Downtown is composed of a nice park, lawyers' offices, and dirty book stores.

Lived there for 4 decades then moved to Bham. First thing I noticed was how much cleaner Huntsville is as a whole. Litter is rampant down here (can't stand litter bugs. Also felt safer there. the thought of owning a firearm for home protection never crossed my mind there. Even though I have grown to appreciate Bham I will always think of Hville as home.

I grew up in Huntsville and still live here. The most livable accolade baffles me. Especially north Huntsville where I work. It's largely a cesspool. Not sure where it ranks on crime but it feels like it should be up there. I can see the space and rocket center from my apartment and it's definitely not a safe place here.

Man, I used to live in Huntsville. Moved 3 years ago and I miss it like hell. You driving down those streets gave me nostalgia. Went trick or treating down one of those neighborhood roads. Fun fact: when you were driving through Dowwntown at the beginning of the video, there used to be a pints & pixels down one of em.

You missed Miss Baker's grave, walked past it. unless she has been moved. On my first visit, the first American in space, was a resident of the museum (1966. I worked in Huntsville for a couple of years. it is a wonderful place. I have a trip planned to the area in October 2022, thanks for the video.

Stay away from Huntsville. It sucks. It's genuinely awful. As well as all surrounding areas. DO NOT COME! The it's great talk is just a trick to get you here to trap you. Please, stay far far away from here. You'd be much better off in any other city/metro/burb than here. Go there. Not here.

You know Ive watched every video up too here, and one thing Ive noticed is not one time, did I see someone sitting out on there porch. Used too be everyone every night sat out front and watched the passing traffic. Is it cell phones that caused this and tv. Modern man in the closet.

Grew up in Huntsville and moved away a few years ago. Love coming back to visit because nowhere else I've been to is as nice and welcoming. It breaks me to see how fast it's changing and I wish it would slow. Please come to visit but stop moving here or it'll become like everywhere else.

Wow, interesting video. My mother's family is from Alabama area and while i have never been able to meet any relatives down there. (Central Penna. here) I have always had this daydream of moving down there for keeps. Your video makes me realize, that dream is still alive. Thanks.

I live in Huntsville Alabama and it is a wonderful place to live. I have been here my whole life and it has grown leaps and bounds in the last few years. It's a great place to raise your family in a diverse friendly town. I will be here for the rest of my days.

I live in Huntsville, AL. It's wild. You have some very nice places. And then you can see some very sketchy areas not too far away. One thing I can say for myself living here is this. Huntsville is definitely booming, economically and population wise.

The salary is very low compared to major cities for engineers. Small boring town. If you are renting an apt, there is no big difference in the cost of living compared to major cities plus low salary.

The problem with the historic district is the building restrictions. So that tiny house can’t be scraped to build a nice house there. Chandler and Hampton above are the really nice neighborhoods.

I live in Huntsville, there is nothing prestigious or particularly special about this town. They lied on that list of top cities. It can't compare to any real city, it's just a developing town.

That run down area was Triana Blvd lol. Still, the homes are huge in that area and historic. I’m a native and there isn’t an area in Huntsville where I don’t feel safe.

As a Huntsville native I can tell you that Twickenham is a neighborhood of doctors and lawyers now. Those are multi-million dollar homes. But yes still a beautiful neighborhood.

If you can't qualify for a position that needs TS/SCI - Don't bother coming. It's actually hard to get a good paying job here because of all the background requirements.

I highly doubt that there are any houses built in the early 1800s left in Huntsville. I would imagine that there are great number of houses built in the early 1900s.
