Actually the main reason for deer stands is to get a better vantage point for your shots. At ground level, many wooded areas are overgrown with bushes, bracken, deadfall, large low branches, etc. and it can be very difficult to see more than 10-15 meters; and even harder to get an arrow or bullet through to hit flesh unmolested. I've had shots hit a branch that didn't even look to be in the way due to the couple of inches difference between bore height and my optic. If you get up 10 feet off the ground you can easily take that out to 30+ meters. And depending on the canopy level it keeps increasing the higher you get, though I can't remember a time I ever set a stand more than 20 feet up. If you are still then deer will look right at you and not spook, so the idea that they do not look up, while true, is a moot point. I've shot a 9 pointer that stared at me for what felt like 10 minutes before turning to graze again. And deer can hear and smell much better than they can see, which only really surpasses our sight in low light conditions. When they turn and stare at you, they are actually trying to orient their ears and nose to hear and smell a threat, and only really use their eyes for motion cues. Which brings up the other main advantage of being up higher, you can mask your scent at ground level and deer have been known to walk right up to the trees you are sitting in if you are quiet enough. I really like to hunt deer with a shotgun using buckshot, so I have to stalk to within about 20 meters to get a high percentage kill shot. I prefer stalking to sitting in a stand for hours on end. Plus in my area turkeys are in season at the same time as deer, so with a shotgun I can quickly change from 00 to #5 shot and take either animal. Don't get me wrong, the first and last 3 days of the season I tend to stay in a stand or blind where a wooded area meets a corn field by a creek. That is about as guaranteed a hunt as you will get without baiting, so I slum it when I have unfilled tags. Oh, and off topic, your editing is getting so good. You have some real talent, brother. You keep making them, I'll keep watching them. Cheers from one of your US subs. Semper Fi

The Deer at the end is a Roe Doe, out of season until November the 1st. I had one in a field I was pigeon shooting in the other day. The first footage looked like a Roe Buck as it seemed to have antlers. They are in season. What you can do with Bucks is call them at this time of year, you just need a squeaker that mimics the Does mating call. They will run right up to you.

How about picking up the little pieces of lead and preventing them from penetrating the trees? 1/4 steel pellet traps behind you targets perhaps then recycle the lead rather than leave it to toxify the forest floor and the trees. or use lead-free pellets ( can still open up bark to disease though.

Deer lick their noses to aid with identifying scents they pick up. Hunters also use tree stands so deer dont smell them. My stand is 23 feet off the ground, but 10-15 is normal. I have a video of just does and fawns I filmed a couple of years ago while in my stand. Loved the intro Cheers

Not only do many animals Not look up, Most Humans do not either. I have sat either in trees or upon high rocks and have had people come right below me and jump out of their Boot's when I have said Good Day to them. :)

get a buttolo roe caller and you will call them in. it's like a squeeker that imitates a baby roe/fawn calling. you should get one as it would be good content for the videos. hoped this helped.

When you're dad was talking about how the people that cull Deer they sit in a chair in the tree this is called a high seat, therefore out of visibility of the deer.
