Basic Environmental Impact Study:
3 separate UBER/LYFT cars each with 3 hour round trip drive times [drop off and return to original pickup area]
9 car hours versus 8 minutes in a helicopter.
Bell 407 burns about 6. 6 gallons of Jet-A [Diesel] on that flight. Perhaps add a bit for approach/landing/holding.
The 3 cars would burn considerably more fuel to accomplish the same task. Every car removed from the road allows the traffic to flow faster and improves the overall efficiency.
This is the first time I could honestly say that a helicopter is more efficient than cars.

I was running late for my return flight to Florida at la guardia, and was terrified when i saw downtown traffic. Someone suggested i take a helicopter there and thought they were joking. To me it was totally worth the 195. 00. Awesome experience, got a great view, made it to the airport in 7 minutes and an SUV took me to my terminal. I have the video kn my page, simply amazing. We took off from the heliport. Booked the flight in less than 10 minutes.

How much is your life worth? Helicopters in New York dont have a good track record. They are flown by low experience pilots, with questionable operational procedures and standards during low weather operations in particular. Those aircraft are mostly VFR rated. The pay is low for those pilots and the cost of living in New York is very high. They couldnt get me to fly with them either as a pilot and much less as a passenger. Good luck.

A NYC yellow cab has a fixed rate to JFK regardless of traffic. Should be around 70 with a tip. Real new yorkers would not put themselves in a situation where they have to travel from midtown to board a flight at JFK smack in the middle of rush hour. Other options include LIRR from midtown to JFK Airtrain for what, $15 total? Or taking the subway 8 stops into Queens (10 minutes) and taking an uber from there for $35 or so. Max.

This only works if you are starting near one of the heliports. The local media did a comparison where they had different people all start at the same point in Manhattan and head to jfk using various modes of transportation. The people who used Blade arrived like 2 to 3 minutes before the person who took the subway (which only costs several dollars. This combined with the limit on baggage makes it hard to justify this.

Maybe worth doing once for the experience, but I would say they're a few negatives (you need to get to the heliport on the west side, no large checked bags, expensive, especially if there are multiple travelers in your group, etc. I was in NYC last week and just used the SuperShuttle. Only about $20 plus tip with the shuttle coming directly to your Manhattan hotel. Not glamorous, but it works.

If you are a carry on only traveler, which is not a rarity, this can be both a time saver and a unique experience. In Vancouver BC Canada there is also a helicopter service from Vancouver to Victoria or Nanaimo or from the airport in Vancouver to Victoria. Less effected by winds than float planes. For any kind of light aircraft though you won't be taking big suitcases with you.

Errrrrrr, there is an alternative to ubers and cabs its called a train. if you are travelling to downtown airtrain to Jamaica then the LIRR to Penn street. $17 travel time about an hour. If travelling Uptown, Air train to Jamaica then E train about an hour and 20 minutes. I do this whilst on business, at least five times a year. Helicopter? self indulgent nonsense.

I doubt you look at comments on videos from 2019, but PanAm used to operate helicopter service from the roof of their NYC building to the NYC area airports. It was complimentary if you had a First or Clipper (Business) class ticket but you could book it/pay extra as part of an Economy ticket. I flew it between NYC & JFK and between JFK & LGA.

You did mention pollution from the Helicopter from Manhattan to JFK. Think of it this way how long did it take a Helicopter to fly as it would have taken a car to drive from Manhattan to JFK. Something tell's that the Helicopter did not have to deal with traffic, stop and go driving, stop light's, and no rode construction issue's either.

Just take the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station in Manhattan to Jamaica Station and then take the JFK Airtrain to your terminal. You can do this for $15 or less depending on the time of day. There are only 2-3 stops between Penn Station and Jamaica Station near Kennedy Airport, and the transfer to the Airtrain is easy.

I gave you a thumbs down.
You could of less than $20 taken the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station to Jamaica Station then transfer to the Airtrain which would of taken you right to your terminal.
Grant it it is faster but in reality most people don't make any kind of money to ride in an expensive helicopter.

I remember I fell asleep once & when I woke up I was flying a helicopter. So then I started drinking heavily, flew home drunk & landed in my driveway.
I still don't know whose helicopter it is but I'm thinking about posting it on craigslist cause I don't like the decals on it.

Great video Noel! This really is an interesting, albeit expensive, way to travel between Manhattan and jfk. But it a once in a lifetime thing to do, especially with those views! Only drawback is you cant a bigger suitcase with you.

Brendan

thats actually cheap to me. a helicopter like that is easily $2. 5M a piece used (2016/15. but i did the math. if they fill the helicopter each flight 5 flights per hour for 8 hours a day they'll make at least 800k to $1. 4M per month. Nice video

Ok as a one off/experience but expensive for the average person. You can get to JFK from Manhattan much cheaper & the flight time doesnt take into account travelling to the heliport, waiting, getting on/off, getting to departure terminal.

It would be an interesting check to compare the environmental effects of one 8 minute helicopter ride carrying 5 passengers against up to five 90 minute, rush-hour taxi rides. The helicopter wouldn't be good but the taxis might be worse.

Landing fees in Manhatten are crazy. there also landing fees at airports. need to consider all costs beyond the $900 operating costs of a 407. still worth it. what will you remember? A drive to an airport or flight. flight every time.
