Great video. I’ve done a Christmas Market tour and a river cruise, but not together. I think if I ever visit the markets again I’ll do the Danube to see a different area than the ones I saw which were mostly near the Rhine. I’d say Riverside is something to keep an eye on in their development in the future, but I’m definitely not sold on switching to them from AMA. I paid more, but they were much more inclusive without the up charges for drinks or excursions. They had a variety of excursions in each port as well as different activity levels offered for each. For example, your bike trip would have been something included with them as they have a bike ride for each stop.

You pretty much traveled the route we did on Viking ( still on) our room is a lot smaller, food choices are limited the part of the Rhine with the castles was very good since our weather cooperated
Breakfast was the best meal so far. The staff work very hard to give us a good time. We went to cologne on Saturday and it was incredibly crowded. We still have Manhiem, Spyer and Strasbourg markets to see. Honestly we really want to love this experience but I truly think we like ocean cruises better. We watched dozens of river cruise videos from year or earlier and we did experience a lot of what reviews told us.
Oh and we used a esim for data (jetpac) 100% worth it.

What a great trip - we thoroughly enjoyed coming along with you for this holiday adventure in the form of your great video. We've done the Christmas Markets in Vienna, Austria twice, including a day trip to Salzburg to enjoy the main one there, and have enjoyed all the many markets that exist all over Vienna and that are delightful whether day or night. One surprise was out at the Botanical Gardens where not only do they have a market but they transform the greenhouses into delightful and amazing Christmas displays of all sorts and it was phenomenal the level of detail that was put into each. Our hope is to return in 2026

It was great that you visited my hometown of Mannheim and its Christmas market; unfortunately, we didn't meet. And sadly, you didn't go to Heidelberg! Mannheim, Speyer, and Heidelberg all have very beautiful Christmas markets. And that potato dish you ate is very well-known; many people love it, but unfortunately, it's very greasy. Overall, a fantastic tour through Germany. So merry Christmas from Mannheim

We lived in Germany when my husband was stationed there. Almost our entire time in Germany was spent with my husband deployed to Iraq. My husband made me promise I would enjoy my time in Germany. The children and I explored many of the places featured in your video. I would love to go back to Germany so that my husband can enjoy the country. Both of his deployments while in Germany were extended tours.

Please consider the quaint Christmas town of Rothenberg, Germany for a future adventure. I just saw a show on PBS that included it in the best Christmas market towns. It's special for its wooden carved figures, nutcrackers, and other delights. It is a wall town dating back hundreds of years with much to see and do. Check it out. Maybe next year, we will see you explore this very picturesque town!

If you get a hankerin' for another Kartoffel Tower while you're back in the States, you can head down to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. They really do up the park for the holidays and have their own Christmas Market. It might not be as good as the one you got in Mannheim, but you can live like a king for six days in Branson for way less than $12, 000.

I am a German living in Florida. I am so happy you got to visit my hometown of Koblenz (born and raised! So many river cruises stop there - for a good reason! Numerous christmas markets all over town. All my family still lives there. Christmas markets are what my wife and I miss most at this time of year. So good to see you had a great time. All the best!

17: 35 This shot, is so much more than it appears: The ICE1 was Germanies first High Speed Train It revolutionized the countries rail network, and boosted the countries economy by over 4%! This train crossing the bridge into Frankfurt is an ICE1 series train, the train that started it all for German High Speed Rail.

We just returned from our own Xmas market tour of England and France. I have to say Strasbourg is the most impressive because of how it looks at night. Strasbourg hails itself as the Capital of Xmas but we really didn't see that until after dark. All the lights on just about every street were amazing.

Christmas tree ornaments are our traditional souvenirs when we travel, so I enjoyed seeing this. Every year when we see the ornaments, we remember our travels. We also add a few ornaents every year, some we've made and others were bought. So it's almost like seeing old frineds again when we decorate the tree.

i was literally jumping for joy as you cruised past Stoltzenfelz Castle. This is my dream cruise to one day to cruise past this particular castle. I have an antique plate with a picture of this castle on it. As soon as it came in to view I knew it was my castle. Thank you for that.

I took a Rhine cruise very similar to yours this summer and was also enamored by the castle stretch between Koblenz and Rudesheim. It was in August, and my now-wife and I couldn't help but imagine how magical these towns would be during Christmas time. Thanks for documenting!

Such a shame you didnt visit the market in cologne (my home! It is regularly awarded to be one of the most beautiful in the world. I guess Cologne would be a bit close to Dusseldorf though for a feasable trip and probably everybody would like to see their hometown mentioned here: )

Just returned from a Basel to Amsterdam Christmas Market Cruise aboard, yes Viking, and while Viking is a wonderful cruise line, I'm definitely going to be looking into Riverside for my next journey! Also, I was sipping my coffee from my Koblenz Market mug while watching

Excellent video, I'd love to try a cruise with Riverside who are a part of the Seaside Collection. I've had the pleasure at staying at some of their excellent hotels in the Canary Islands and the food and service is fantastic, glad to see its the same on their cruises!

What ever you do, don't plan a connecting flight in Copenhagen on a SAS flight. Terrible incident with Border Patrol at airport. My husband and I were separated from my family without explanation. Missed our flight home to LAX. Waited another 6 hrs to get home.
