Memphis, in 2021, is ranked the 2nd most dangerous city to live in. I've lived here since 1959. It use to be a beautiful city with wonderful people, of all races. To this day I still have many friends and we love each other unconditionally.
I know for a fact other cities are much more dangerous than Memphis, such as Chicago and New York. I can facetime my Chicago relatives and they can literally sit on their high rise balconies, scan the nearby neighborhoods, and you can HEAR and SEE the gun fire!

Lol he said get a burger from hooies. He's talking about Hueys. Pronounced h-you-ie-s. If you come here, and ask for Hooies I'm going to laugh at you. Really though Memphis, and the surrounding area's have a dynamite food scene. Check out Noodle House for Vietnamese, or Hog-N-Hominey for something really stellar. Also local Dees Wings Are Fye has the best wings hands down.
Edit: During Christmas you can do a carriage ride though Shelby Farms that's lit up with tons of Christmas lights.

I work in downtown Memphis, my employer recommends we all have our sidearms on our person as we work due to the crime. It has got better in the last few years, but we still have the need. Work has me traveling all the time but as far as Gus's and Central BBQ, those are my personal favorite chicken and BBQ places in the country. Can't go wrong stopping by there. The lines are long for a reason.

DON'T get drunk and try to swim in the river. First its disgusting, second it has powerful undercurrents, whirlpools, and eddies that can pull you under even wearing a life vest. It's not obvious due to its depth and size so people can underestimate the danger.
Memphis has some of the cleanest tap water on the planet thanks to a deep sandy aquifer.

Don't miss the triple A baseball team - the Redbirds. The AAA team of the Cardinals boast the best AAA stadium in the nation. It's truly one of the crown jewels of Memphis and it's accross the street from the Peabody. Also if you have to decide between Sun studios and Graceland go to Sun studios, unless your an Elvis fanatic.

Downtown Memphis is great, but don't sleep on Midtown! Overton Square near the Memphis zoo is a great spot for food and nightlife as well. Overall, Memphis is not a place that you want to spend your life. Crime is a major issue which has likely been the reason the city's growth has remained stagnant for decades.

Most dangerous city In which I have lived. Was mugged and roommates car had tires slashed and broken into while in college. BBQ is great though! Lol. Central is great, bbq shoppe and one and only bbq as well. Again not a safe place at all though. If you see someone that looks crazy or sketchy STAY AWAY.

I live here. I won't go to town. I advise you don't either. There's a reason it is the 3rd murder capital just short of Detroit and Chicago. The interstate 240 Loop is called the Death Loop 240 as there are many shootings just because someone is doing the speed limit as many are doing 90+ in a 55.
