Nevada: The DON'Ts of Visiting Nevada - Wolters World Andy: Don't forget that the city limits of Carson City extend to the Eastern shore of Lake Tahoe (Nevada side. So, don't get freaked out if and when you head East down the 50, and then still find yourself at a lower elevation in Carson City. Also, don't forget to have a Plan B, Plan C, etc. if you are in Las Vegas and want to visit the Hoover Dam. A year ago I went out there as part of a road trip to the Grand Canyon. I called ahead, checked the news, and their website online before heading out there, as it was the first stop on my trip. When I finally got there, there was a big sign that read, Hoover Dam Closed. The security personnel there were re-routing a whole bunch of traffic behind and in front of me to turn around. We all ended up at the Lake Mead overlook, getting photos of the lake as a consolation prize. As I was staying a couple nights in Boulder City (I'm not a gambler and there were hardly any shows in Vegas, if any this time last year) I visited the Boulder Dam Museum. One can easily spend an hour there, and still learn about the history of the dam. I also made the short drive to Vegas to have my picture taken in front of the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, as I never did that during my previous visits to Vegas. Not a bad way to spend the day, using a backup plan.

Nevada is all about the open, folks- open skies, open range, and open attitudes. As I'm Not-Sure pointed out below, don't miss a chance to see the immensely big Nevada skies- sunrises, sunsets, and the stars. All of them. Great Basin National Park, in NE Nevada, near Ely, is known as one of the darkest spots in the US, and the astronomy / astrophotography possibilities are world-class. Another don't- don't think Nevada is flat. In fact, Nevada is the most mountainous state in the lower 48, and is second only to Alaska if you include all 50. Don't miss a chance to try Basque food if you haven't. Nevada has a robust Basque culture, and the Basque dining experience is very enjoyable- excellent food served family-style, so you'll get a chance to meet those of us who call this amazing state home.

I love traveling too (I love Paris, Belgium, Montreal, Caribbean, coastal US cities) but it ain't free and stocks are one way to make money.
, AMAZON:
Yep, I bought a ton on the dip. It's getting cheaper relative to its current earnings (half compared to last year.
. With the Delta virus coming at full speed ahead, pandemic sales will make a comeback.
Amazon's not going anywhere so I know that eventually it will come back.
Fidelity considers Amazon as a large growth company (probably because as big as it is, it still only has 7% of the retail market)
buying via Amazon Smile donations donates some money to my favorite charity too!
Get on board or be runover, it's up to you.

Another thing: open carry of firearms is legal in Nevada so if you see someone carrying a firearm don't get all freaked out thinking something is going to happen, it's just someone carrying. Even if a store sign says no firearms allowed it is still legal and most places don't enforce the policy, so again don't get freaked out. As for hiking, I wouldn't go hiking anywhere too desolate without a bright reflective vest, water, some food, telling someone where I'm going, or a firearm, lots of weird stuff goes on in the desert and there are some pretty vicious pretadors out there.

As always a great video. I was in Nevada and especially Las Vegas a lot when I was young but have made a lot of trips there as an adult. One of the don'ts I would have is don't forget to drive US Highway 50 from Ely to Carson City with a side trip to Virginia City. Wonderful drive although I would say US 395 north of Lakeview Oregon is a LOT lonelier than US 50 is.

When drive in Nevada I carry a whole shitload of soda pop. There is nothing like a cold soda on a hot day. The good news is that soda in Nevada has no sales tax or CRV
As far gas stations use a phone app called Gas Guru to plan your fuel stops
And 99. 9 percent of the casinos are in Reno, Las Vegas, Laughlin, Wendover, and and Jackpot.

I was in Nevada last week. I drove in through McDermitt, down through Winnemucca and Tonopah, then Beatty, Las Vegas and Laughlin. Curled back around through Wendover, Wells, and visited the ghost town of Metropolis. Such a wonderful state to see. I plan to go again to see more.
Valley of Fire was stunning.

I absolutely hate Las Vegas but other than that I love Nevada! Hiking around Lake Tahoe on NV side is top notch and beautiful and so is Carson Valley- if you are hiking, be careful as mud slides do occur. This Floridian loves the natural beauty of Nevada! Thank you for the video!

Yeah that speed trap thing is no joke. What's considered normal driving in California will get you a ticket within 10 minutes of crossing the border into Nevada. Doesn't matter if you're polite or you have a clean record, that cop will give you a ticket for doing 10 over.
