Ottawa is the capital of Canada split between Quebec and Ontario this capital city has tons of museums and all the trappings of a government city. Here is a throwback for you from way back in the day. Ottawa What to see and do in Ottawa

worst review ever an absolutely idiot! nothing this guy says don't listen to him. he only talks about downtown area the worst area and being really friendly no! not to mention Ottawa does have over a million people and funny he talks abut people needing to be rich well if ur only visiting the snobbiest people yes downtown is right for you but if you really wanna see how good Ottawa is stay out of downtown this man clearly did not leave the downtown core and did not go to the west, east or even south. Ottawa downtown is gross just like everyone's downtown here are full of drug using homeless people begging and bugging you for money or dealers not to mention we have not been busy as he shows. we are lock down as far as parking downtown? good luck! trust me when i say this i lived in Ottawa all my life and i think its 1 of the worst city in Canada #1 goes to the province of Quebec where they are supper raciest cops will pull u over just for having an Ontario plate not to mention 1 the most effect Covid epic centre in Canada.

Love these videos. The negatives are interesting- nightlife- fair enough before COVID, you needed to know where to go, its exist but doesnt jump out at you like Toronto or Montreal. In comparison to Toronto, Ottawa is very clean downtown, and improving.
It is a government town, cant disagree, but doesnt mean its expensive - dont go to tourist traps (Byward Market) and youll find the prices drop fast and quality is good.
Ottawa has extreme cold (-40 Celsius at worst in winter) and extreme heat (40 at worst in summer. So dress warm in winter, but pack light for summer. The Rideau Canal is worlds largest skating rink and very fun to skate into the downtown of a capital city.
Ottawas proximity to nature is probably underrated, yes Gatineau Park is very close but lots of great hiking only about an hour away from downtown on the Ontario side a well.
We like to think we are friendly too: )

Best things: biking; kayaking on the Rideau River or Lac Phillip in Gatineau park; cross-country skiing in the winter; live music at the Rainbow, Live on Elgin, Irenes, or the Black Sheep in nearby Wakefield; restaurants in the ByWard market, Little Italy, Wellington West or Hull; Jazz festival, Bluesfest, and Folkfest; Film festivals, especially with the Canadian Film Institute, the National Art Gallery, day trips to Perth, Almonte, Westport, Merrickville, Aylmer; walking tours, especially the Peoples history walking tours and Indigenous Walks tours; the Fringe festival and local theatre, especially at the GCTC and the National Arts Centre. Worst things: conservative/closed mindedness, reserved people, prices, public transit, lacks joie de vivre.

You need a car to have a good time here. Tourists must hate the fact that the main attractions are so spread out, and the downtown core is so small. You could fit the areas of Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver inside Ottawa. Don't rely on the transit systems exclusively, you won't be pleased.
Why anyone from out of town would be attracted to the Byward Market, I have no idea. It's a sty. Positively nothing like being in Europe.

Haha! Ive been working in Ottawas nightlife for 15 years. We have an amazing underground. you just have to look for it. Its not for the tourists so if you dont know someone here, you wont find the graffiti, the film festivals, the concerts, the really weird stuff like drag shows, pop up dinner parties in weird locations, the rap battles, etc.
Forget winter in Ottawa though. I travel in the winter

I like going to the sugar shacks in the nearby countryside for maple syrup season. A sugar shack is family friendly (it's not like the bunny ranches of Nevada. It where maple sap is boiled down to syrup in the spring. March break time. Given an opportunity to do spring break in Daytona or Ottawa, clearly go to Daytona but the sugar shacks are interesting to see once. An Ottawa native.

Every large city has sketchy areas and homeless people. But to compare Ottawa to Toronto and Montreal and say that Ottawa needs to be cleaned up and spruced up to be more like Toronto and Montreal is the most RIDICULOUS thing Ive ever heard. Have you even been to Toronto and Montreal? Elbow grease and run down? Please. And its the BYward Market, not Bayward.
reply

Been there a few times. Byward is very busy and lots of activity in the summer. Lots of choices of food and patios to grab a beer. Lots of walking trails and mix of city and nature a great balance. Not overwhelming like the large cities. People always seemed very friendly/happy and seemed family friendly. Prefer Ottawa and Kingston over Montreal and Toronto.

if it wasn't the capital it would be a ghost town that no one even bothers with. to expensive not up to standards and still in the dark ages with almost everything. and I live here for years. Worst decision I ever made. if my wife wasn't in the governments employ we would have left years ago. WAITING TO LEAVE AS WE RETIRE SOON.

LOL. If anyone comes to Ottawa, definitely ask a local. We can give you all the details of where to eat, night life and other things to do that aren't necessarily listed in any tourism brochure lol.
Great vid!
Any other Ottawa peeps watch this?
