The Don'ts of Thanksgiving Travel - 10 Tips to Survive Thanksgiving - Wolters World picobello99: Hi Mark (and everyone else! I'm planning to travel to Argentina in june/july next year and I'm wondering if you could spare me some tips: ) Some of the things I would like to know:
- Is it a good idea to visit Patagonia in June? I would love to see it, but I also know it's winter time then. How bad is winter there?
- What is the best way to get around in Argentina? I heard Buenos Aires has public transportation, but what about the rest of the country? Or is renting a car a better idea?
- Do you have any safety advice? We're two young women travelling alone (probably.
Other tips are welcome too: )

A counter point on the don't check luggage point. If you can't pack light, check your damn bag. I'm so sick of some thoughtless person who tries to cart a full suitcase on the plane because maybe there's extra overhead space. No. The flight will be full. They will have someone with a ramrod outside the plane trying to get one more paying customer inside that fuselage. CHECK THE DAMN BAG.

So does your family live in London? 1: 11: ) Also thank you for the Minneapolis Airport shoutout. 2: 50 In my experience traveling on the Wednesday before it did not appear to be any busier than any other day but it probably was just my experience. I was at Minneapolis airport in the early morning; Chicago midway in the late morning. Some airports tend to do better when preparing for it.

Nice tip on the don't rely on family to pick you up. When you have a large family (6 siblings for me, best to make your own arrangements to get to/from the airport. You control your time then and your family will also appreciate not having to come get you or drop you off during the busiest travel time! Especially if they are hosting and have loads of other things to do too.

Having patience is definitely the absolute most important aspect of the traveling journey.
My wife use to work at a parking garage near the Seattle airport and you would not believe how many people thought that they (the customer) were the most important situation occurring at that moment. they forget that stuff happens, companies are sometimes shorthanded etc.

DON'T say the following to the clerk at the grocery store/pharmacy/convenience store that you're in due to a last minute shopping request: Oh I wouldn't want to work on Thanksgiving; Oh, you're working on THanksgiving, don't you have family? or any of that jazz. Just treat it like normal small talk (or even better, none) that you would use on any other day.

The advice about the Monday after is spot on. Even when I don't travel, I take off the Monday after. Most of my colleagues take off that Tues/Wed before, so the office is pretty empty those days (which gives me time to catch up on projects/emails. I then just take off the Monday after and enjoy an extra long weekend.

Im flying on Thanksgiving day. I have done it before and it was great. So I agree with you about that. I have flown the day before Thanksgiving and OMG, just hang yourselves, its the worst. Pack the patience for sure if that is you.

I will never ever again travel on Thanksgiving. I've spent too many times delayed on flights and highways turned into parking lots. Never again. I'm staying home and drinking my self into oblivion(Hic)
