This is uk specific but it's great: always consider dividing train fares! Basically, the UK train fare system is so needlessly complicated that it's often times cheaper to split your fare by buying tickets between certain stations along the way and then another to your destination. For example from my town, Bath, it's much cheaper to buy a ticket from bath to didcot parkway and didcot parkway to London Paddington. Or, I was going to go to Scotland in April until covid said no and I saved a considerable amount by getting tickets from bath Spa to Cheltenham Spa, to stoke-on-trent, Manchester, Preston and Lockerbie. There are websites that do all of the calculations for you, just search split tickets into your search engine. These websites take a small share of your saving so you can either just pay a few pounds for them to do it all automatically or go to another website and buy each ticket individually. I use london northwestern railway (they sell tickets for all train operators in the uk) to then book each journey but the website does let you buy multiple tickets in one hit. Doing this is completely legal and your connections are still protected. The only catch is that the trains you take stop at all the stations you split at. You can also save money by considering slower alternatives to travel to your destination such as from bath to London, there's a slower train that is much cheaper but that all depends on what your priorities. From London to Birmingham, there's the avanti west coast train from London euston to Birmingham new street which takes 1h 20m and is super expensive. Rip off as far as I'm concerned. Chiltern railways from London Marylebone to Birmingham moor street takes 1h 40m and is a fraction as much as scam-vanti west coas. London northwestern railway also goes along that route and takes 2h and is a little less than chiltern. London northwestern railway also goes liverpool alongside avanti but I think it's too slow to be worth it, taking 4h instead of 2h 15m. From London to Edinburgh, you can go from London euston and go via the west coast which takes 1hr Longer but can save you a considerable amount of money.

Through HomeExchange. com we've done 15 swaps all over Europe and New Zealand. We simply live in a family's home, drive their car, and they come live in our home, and drive our car for 2-3 weeks. Many day trips, combined with hotel stays in other cities we may want to visit further away. Obviously, have to plan carefully. Get to know the family you're trading with before anyone buys a ticket. I'm a sailor and on one occasion, we traded boats and got to sail Holland and he, the Chesapeake Bay. No money changes hands except subscription to the service to list you home and places you want to go. Combined with all the other suggestions you made in your video, you can travel very well.

Charles Schwab online brokerage account comes with attached online checking account and debit card with no fees of any kind. No international exchange fees, all ATM fees from anywhere in the world are re-imbursed. Just use the debit card at any ATM anywhere in the world and you have no fees to get local cash. Of course use a large bank ATM to get the best exchange rate too. Watch out in tourist areas like in old Montreal where you see all these little ATMs in bars and little stores that give you a lousy exchange rate.

That was a good advice regarding buying a local SIM card. I was in New Zealand for two weeks. I bought a local SIM card with 200 minutes of talk time, 2GB of data and like a 1000 text messages. Pre-paid, $20, and I've had a local phone number. I paid cash for it so they wouldn't do any hocus-pocus on my credit card. It worked perfectly. The only requirement is to have an unlocked smartphone (or a flip-phone, like you suggested. Most T-Mobile unlocked phones work internationally that way.

Exchanging money can be hassle but the biggest advice I can give you: NEVER USE THE EURONET ATM'S (as he showed on the video. They are only found in big tourist locations for a reason. It will give you an horrible exchange rate and bill you with fees because you've used an foreign card. In my visit to Poland I took money from home and exchanged maybe 60 in a place next to the Museum of Culture and Science in Warsaw. Do your research and you'll find amazing places to exchange money.

Took Virgin east coast train from London to Edinburgh - party of 4 was $50 apiece, our own table, with padded leather seats in first class, breakfast and lunch and snacks and drinks included. 120 mph, 5 1/2 hours, free WiFi and all the beautiful English countryside you could ask for. Was way better than cramming onto a Ryanair for the same ticket price, getting charged extra for our bags, and doing our best sardine impression.

If you want to cook your own food and you're staying somewhere a while. I think buying fresh (preferrably in season) food from markets and if you can buying from shops that allow you to take your own containers and fill up. They call those zero waste shops in the UK because the supermarkets don't have a bulk section. I hear they like the bulk sections in a lot of supermarkets in the US.
