Gatlinburg - Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains Travel Guide Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are crowded, tacky, and not my idea of relaxing. Expect to spend most of your vacation sitting in gridlock traffic. The attractions are tacky and not particularly authentic. The mountains are beautiful, but also crowded. Wall to wall rude tourists to annoy you. I have lived in Sevier County for 38 years now. I avoid these tourist traps like the plague. If you want to enjoy the mountains, try entering through Townsend, the quiet side of the Smokies. Or check out the Big South Fork National Recreation area. Just as beautiful with less crowds.

Bring your wallet. it's not because prices are out of line. it's because your kids will want to do everything. you will too. but don't panic. the Smoky mountains National park is. well. off the fricking hook. and you are basically in it and when the wallet runs thin this park is second to NONE. PS- ITS FREE and it is the most visited park in the USA for a reason. find out why! Been there done that. WE'LL BE BACK. it's soooooo beautiful. I love this wonderful place! Crowds can be tough during peak seasons so plan accordingly

Parking is $20 in most places in Gatlinburg as of September 2022, when I last visited. The trolley is great though in my opinion. You can park for free at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center and ride into Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. The drivers are super helpful and friendly if you are not sure where you need to get off. They are ADA friendly too. equipped with a lift. A tip: If you need the lift, park on the lower level at the Welcome Center for Pick Up.

Thank you for encouraging us to discover America! It was you who made us visit Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains, Holland in Michigan, Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and many places in Florida! We really appreciate your work and would like to wish you success in your future activity!

Yep, spent 3 days in the area last week! Most of the tourist had the decency to stay in town! Congestion, high prices for lodging, restaurants! Almost as bad as Myrtle Beach! Another idealistic place ruined by developers to draw yuppies in and ruin the natural atmosphere!

You should have said something about Clingmans Dome at the top of the mountain. It's about 45 minute to hour drive but it's free and worth the drive. FYI it's best to go first thing in the morning around 8am because of the parking. The view is amazing though.

We went there last week for a 4day holiday, must come back some other times, 4 days not enough to see everything, it's beautiful, lot of things to do, it's definitely a tourist destination. It took us 7. 5 hours drive. Will come back again. Watching you from Ohio.

I hope they are paying you some serious money to plug just about every tourist trap across the country have to admit I didnt catch on till I was on my second vid but it became clear when the sale pitch was just short of SELLING TIME SHARES

If you go to Gatlinburg, there is NO place to park. You must park in the parking garages ($15) or you will be towed ($100 miniman. Watch the no parking signs. most of the lots are employee only. I always wanted to go, but not any more

That was great. I took notes of everything to do. Made a list over 50 things I would like to do and see. This trips going to be exspensive. Might have to come back and visit to complete all activities a few times that I want to do

Capitalism destroyed this nice beautiful town. Look at pictures right before it went to shit, circa 1982 and before. The remains of this great beauty have been covered up with food chains and tourist traps which don't belong.

HELL NO! That's like going to Vegas in the mountains! They ruined it! Garbage. I live in upstate NH and I shudder to think that shit would ever come here and ruin our gorgeous quaint scenic beauty. so sad.

Grew up less than 2 hours from the place. Been there many times including worked at River Terrace when I was 21. Great place but has got way too crowded for me anymore. I started going in the 1970’s

Sounds like an Adventure. My best friend wants to move here, open a shop. I would continue to work in my telework job. Doesn’t it get cold there Just not sure.

Local hillbilly here giving advice that sadly should not have to be said. Do not pet nor take selfies with the wildlife. They may eat you, it's happened before.
reply

It was impossible listening to this guy’s voice. And the whole pet friendly thing was highly annoying. No one wants to eat in a restaurant with your dog.

I recognize the roads use as escape routes from the fires. A little strange feeling but the green growth brings a sense of peace.

Downtown Gatlinburg and especially Pigeon Forge are so dumpy and commercialized. If I want this I’d go to Ocean City Maryland.
reply

Great video but seeing two people fall out of the blue raft and the others frantically pulling them in was not very encouraging!
