We just did the drive and this video was very helpful. Unfortunately for us the weather was pretty dry and that meant not enough water for many of the waterfalls. We kept looking over at every bridge crossing to see all the waterfalls along the way and well over half of them just werent there. Sacred pools barely had enough water to have falls between two of the pools but not enough for falls all the way down. Similarly the lookouts on pipiwai trail had no falls to see. Had to go all the way to the large waimoko falls to actually see the falls. One benefit of such dry weather was that the roads were completely dry and we had our convertible top down all the way there and back. Still the gypsy guide kept telling us about all the micro climates on the east side of the volcano and how at a moments notice you could get rain and I just kept thinking that there was no difference in weather between Hana and kaanapali beach where we were staying.

We went to Maui in 2003 and stayed in Kahana on the west end of the island. Amazing 10 days and taking the road to Hana (where my grandma was born) was a highlight of our trip. When we were there, there were lots of people swimming and jumping in the 7 Sacred Pools, and we werent required to get a reservation to the black sand beach. We took our drive in one day, but wish now we had taken more time to explore. I hope to be back, getting old! Lol And all the digital photos I took are gone. I had offloaded the photos onto my laptop instead of backing them up to a drive or cd. When we got home from our long flight home, my hard drive totally died along with many memories. Thankfully we have video from our camcorder and some hard copy photos from a few water cameras. Guess we need to return!

I did the road to Hana last November. Loved it! Stopped for the banana bread, multiple falls, the Huli Huli chicken in Hana, we used the app that was a fantastic guide. My favorite part was the Black sand beach. Just know you need a reservation to park and spend a few hours there. The Black sand beach is truly black. More like tiny pebbles than sand. The locals drive 4x4 trucks and drive that road pretty fast. can be a little nerve wracking. Start early, like 6: 00am.

Wow, I love this video so much! Brought back so many amazing memories when I did this roadtrip more than a decade ago! Made me a little teary eyed tbh, it was truly a magical time for me. Your narration is very nice & calm as opposed to other vloggers who can honestly be too much. Lol You gave a lot of helpful info as well that I will def use since it's been a while for me since I've been there. Thanks so much for sharing this gem! Safe travels!

I enjoyed your video and seeing the enthusiasm you hv for Maui! // I hv been there 4 times and for over 4 months on the beautiful island! // Hana tip tho Re motel stays 1. Budget = The Waianapanapa Cottages $100 / night (2 ngt min ) or 2. Hana Traverssa / Hyatt $700 / night!
But - as you saw, its very hard to do all this in 1 day, and driving back in the dark is no picnic / Mahalo - Carl G in CT

I want to thank you soooo much for this amazing video. In planning our Hawaii trip I was not sure how I felt about Maui but also felt like the Road to Hana was a must do. This has basically allowed me to feel pretty confident that I do not need to visit or do the Road to Hana. Great video and really helped me make an informed decision. Thanks!

great video of this, I am going to Maui next week and nothing planned at all but I might have to do some of this. I don't think I could do the whole thing, my hotel is way on the other side of the island, wouldn't have enough time in just one day I think? :-( Maybe next time I will plan around this adventure.

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL VIDEO OF YOUR STAY / MEMORIES OF HANA - THANK YOU FOR SHARING! I'm so sad being one that is born and raised on Maui and the only memories I have of Hana are on old pictures way back when I was a child so thank you again for this awesome video reminding me of the beautiful island I live on.

Was in Maui last week of April staying in Kaanapali. Sadly, didnt make the Hana trip so it was nice to come across your video so I could experience it through your eyes. We did do the loop around the north end of West Maui past Kapalua which was pretty awesome. Somewhat similar to the Hana road it seems like.

Thanks - nice video. We did this trip in April 2022. We did Pipiwai first and then Seven Sacred Pools after. We also talked to the Ranger who encouraged us to do the circle Hana trip so we turned left out of the park. Its longer than going back the same way but great views and glad we did it!

I have been on the road many times. Our last trip. Fog came in. a real surprise. the cattle must have gotten a pass. out? the road & sights are truly beautiful. however; be prepared for a very narrow road. If not used to Mountain driving. for some scary. Cliff. worth it. Thanks

Road to Hana should have a warning sign that says extremely dangerous drive at own risk. I took this thinking it be fun and casual because of videoes like this but I regretted it once I was on it. My heart was jumping out of my chest the whole drive. Twin falls is amazing though.

Awesome video! What incredible views. God is an incredible Creator.
Great clear info shared, too.
And y'all are so cute together! It's sweet seeing couples interacting kindly, happily, and respectfully with each other. May the Lord continue to bless your marriage!

Thanks for the tour. Would love to get some of the Banana Bread, do they deliver? Also, you are both true hikers wearing your Yosemite and Yellowstone shirts! Yosemite is my favorite next to the Hawaiian Islands. Mahalo for the great video!

Awesome video's, I haven't been up to Makahiku & Waimoku falls since 1972. I spent my summers with my relatives in Kipahulu, Hana & Kaupo. Last time I there visiting in 2018 and I was amazed of the heavy traffic on the SE side of Maui.

Stayed at Hotel Hana Maui in 1978 after getting married at Kanapali Sheraton. It was 150. a night including 3 meals a day which was outrageous back then. Feel very fortunate to have had that experience. Aloha

Great video.
My late wife and i made the trip to Hanna and back the same day in 1986.
Unfortunately she was subject to car sickness, so all the curves in the road had her sick the entire time.

You should have continued around the island instead of just turning around and returning on a road you've already travelled. The west side of Maui is completely different, beautiful.
