Great job going over the Freedom Trail! I grew up just east of where you ended at the Navy Yard. I'll let you guess where that is. Anyways, bummer you couldn't get on the USS Constitution. course you're both a bit tall for that ship. I haven't been on it since 1974, when my school took us for a class trip and even back then, at 7 years old. I was tall for the ship. today, I'd be doing lots of ducking. I've never done the full Freedom Trail in one shot. but I've been on all of it. The State House is worth a trip back if you like historic actually in use buildings. You're right about the October time frame to visit. I really miss the Fall here in Dallas. Ditched the New England snow over 25 years ago.
Oh yeah, the clam chowder on Highway 1 is MUCH better than Boston Chowda. But there are loads of places for even better than Sam's or The Splash Cafe in the Boston area. Couple I'd recommend? The Barking Crab near the Seaport area, Legal Sea Foods, and over in Winthrop, Belle Isle Seafood. Lots more if you head other places, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Local guy here. You are right about the chowder & lobster roll as well as Modern vs Mikes. Mikes is getting better over the years. My family is from a couple streets away. Modern was always the local favorite. Their cannoli advantage was that they would fill them as ordered so the shell stayed crunchy.
Union Oyster House does and should remain in the past. There are better choices. Recommend Regina Pizza on Thatcher Street for best pizza north of New Haver CT. Sorry all the stuff was closed. Bostonians lie! Especially when that close to the state house. No surprise they were not working though.

I truly loved the Constitution museum, all interesting and educational. I was there on the right day and got to tour the ship. It was very hard to find a place to park downtown and I ended up somewhere in the middle of the trail. Nobody could tell me which way to go to the beginning or to Paul Revere's house, not even a mailman! Finally I ran into a tourist who had been to the Revere house and he pointed me in the right direction. It was an interesting tour but in my mind I have it mixed in with the House of Seven Gables in Salem. Just old, interesting and historic.

I ate at the Union Oyster House when I was in Boston last year! The atmosphere was really neat, and the lobster roll I got was fantastic, but all things considered I probably wouldn't get it again. I remember the price more than the taste, lol.
I did the taste test between Mike's and Modern too. Found I actually liked Mike's a bit better. I tried both of their regular cannoli and a specialty one from each, and there's a cannoli Mike's does that uses a florentine cookie for the shell--one of my favorite things I had on the trip.

I hope you can come back on days when the sites are open. Union Oyster House a good dining experience. The Bunker Hill tower climb is really a fun experience. I hope that opens up again. The U. S. S. Constitution is a must. The U. S. S. Cassin Young is at the Navy Yard along with the two museum buildings. The Charlestown Navy Yard is a nice place. You can also pick up a Boston Harbor tour shuttle from there. Come back soon and visit our renowned art museums.

Boston is an amazing historical city. I used to live in Nashua, NH, about 45 miles from downtown Boston and I've been through that city and in most of those historic buildings and locations. I've eaten at Union Oyster House, delicious sea food there! And I've eaten cannolis at Mike's pastry. I would recommend visiting Boston as anyone's bucket list, especially if you are interested in history!

Very nice tour. I had hoped to do the trail this past October too, but didn't prioritize it. Perhaps this year. Can't believe your Dad is just trying Cannolis! Did not know you could walk from Bunker Hill to Old Ironsides! There is public underground parking lot right next to the Common, so you don't have to walk so far for parking. Great tips, thanks for sharing.

Omg I love it! We live in Central NH and despite trips to Boston have yet to do this, but its on the bucket list. Im a huge history buff fan, and presently reading books on Paul Revere, John Hancock, James Otis and Sam Adams so cannot wait to hit this in the spring. The Revolutionary Trail in Concord Mass is really neat to see as well.
Very well done video!

I grew up between Lynn, MA & Beverly, MA and my most favorite part of that fact is being blessed by growing up surrounded by SO MUCH history! I've walked these trails numerous times and STILL manage to find some cool new fact every time I am able to do it again. This country was once something to be so incredibly proud of.

Nice video. First the USS Constitution is a great tour. A must see to learn why American sailors were so feared. Plus the battle against the HMS Java is a great story. Second, you can get back to Boston from Old Ironsides by taking the MBTA Water Shuttle which drops you off near the New England Aquarium.

I Love the Union Oyster House! I suggest going there at Christmas when the interior is decorated for that period. Also, tell your dad that it's possible to sit & eat in the same booth where John Hancock always ate & drank.
And Yes, Old Ironsides is awesome, definitely worth going on!

Ive not explored Boston extensively so its good to know about this very accessible trail. It is kind of jarring to see the old buildings from the 1700s next to the modern ones. Boston has some of the best Italian food you will find in the US. Their cannolis are wonderful.

Loved this informative video! We plan to stay an extra day in Boston after our cruise in Sept. /Oct and will definately be walking the Freedom Trail. Unfortunately We'll be there on a Monday when several things are closed but it looks like there is still a lot to see.

We lived north of Boston for 28 years and did this walk TWICE lol. The traffic and parking SUCK. Did you fix the flag on The Old State House? The Constitution is a ship, not a boat; -) And it's well worth a tour! Thanks!

This was very helpful! We started at the USS Constitution and had to walk that bridge right off the bat, it was helpful to know what to do. We only made it to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. Logged a lot of miles today.

Just make sure you have enough money for $300 a night, a weapon to protect yourself from the marauding crowds of violent teens, plenty of warm clothes and definitely don't miss your plane back home.

Here's an off the wall question for you, Josh. While doing these videos, do you ever run into people who has seen your previous California Through My Lens videos and have a conversation with them?

Have walked the freedom trail and it is what makes Boston such a great city. The way that Boston mixes in their history with modern buildings is great and the way they preserve everything so well.

The main takeaway is to avoid doing the trail on a monday or tuesday haha. So much history to see though. Sad to see the chipotle resides in the bookstore. No idea Boston was known for cannolis!

I've walked it several times and I always learn something new. The Freedom Trail is a must do for anyone who is even remotely interested in the beginnings of our country.
