My personal story. In 2004-05, I was seriously unhealthy and overweight. Ever since my discharge from the Army in 2001 I gained pounds and didn't exercise. Then several things prompted me to change! First was a kidney infection I got from drinking too much alcohol at parties back in 2004. The pain was excruciating and lasted weeks, I thought I was going to die, and today I blame it for being unhealthy. I stopped drinking alcohol for a whole year because of it. The second was problems waking up in the morning to get to work. I noticed with short interval runs around a track every now and then that it was much easier for me to wake up and start a day, rather than wanting to stay in bed the whole time, and risk being late for work.
So in 2005, I did a walk-run around a block, 2 miles jogging, 2 miles walking, for about 6 months, every single day. By 2006, I was running at a constant around that block, a full 4 miles, and lost 50 pounds of fat! I felt good everyday and managed to keep the weight off with daily runs of 4 miles. By 2009, I was running 6 miles a day, and in 2011, it was 7 miles a day. Then I got up to 8 miles a day from 2012-2016! Running 8 mile days is a superb exercise to maintain a peak level of health, stamina, and weight.
In my mid-30s I began to notice it was harder to maintain weightloss. In 2007, I could pig out on junk food, and not worry about weight gain, with only a 4 mile run everyday. Now in 2020, 4 miles doesn't cut it! I have to run 8-10 miles a day to have the metabolism and run-fueled energy I got from running just a 4 in 2007. Age really is an impediment to weight loss through exercise, but if you ramp it up, you can still reach those peaks of fitness you enjoyed in your youth.

Read this with an open mind, many years ago serving in the British Armed Forces they have a high emphasis on cardio. When training overseas alongside some other nations (I won't mention) who had a higher emphasis on weights and aesthetics, they would be blowing out their backsides around the assault course, long 'hikes', and during swim tests. They looked like they were in agony, literally. This is just an observation between 2 groups of similar aged males who trained differently, not judgement.

If you are fat and out of shape. Jogging 50-60 minutes or 5-7 miles is the way to go. I've had my ups and downs with weight during my adult life and jogging/running is the only thing that ever took it off. If you want to be a UFC champ maybe jogging isn't enough but if you are sick and tired of being fat, I highly recommend it.

Personally, I don't like gyms. They are so crowded and I can't do my workout there. I decided to take bodyweight training plan from Agoge Diet. Training plan is great and I can do it from home. They also give you diet plan which supports your fitness goals.

But every one can't take the stress of HIIT on treadmill. According to the body.
So fast running is not for everyone.
But jogging is something humane. And believe me it works.

Why would I create a diet plan myself when there are people who certainly do that better then me? Visit Agoge Diet and get your personalized meal plan.
