Ive been using 2 old nexus 5 with UT, Both phones have working Cam and Video capture. The pics turn out good but not as good as what androids did. Rotation sensor works on both at all times unless turned off. Wifi works perfectly and it is quite fast, it works every time when killed or when re enabled. I always turn this off because it will save power like on any OS. The blu tooth is so so slow its usless, so getting a acurate reading on maps isnt there but it will still give you a general area, aparently they are working on it, but slowly. I keep blu tooth turned off to save power too along with location just because the gps isnt quite there yet. these all save power. I dont use the cell steadily but on a very old, 2013 battery that is 7 years old now I can still get all day power with my cell, as long as I remeber to turn my wifi off after using it. I am definately going to buy the pine 64, it will eventually replace my both my Nexus 5's. I will say this in closing. Rob Braxman does an excellent job on his reviews, I like the fact the he doesnt hold back any punches. Pritty smart cooky too. Great set of Vids Rob n TY

Both my phone and computers are hacked and are being remotely controlled and they hacker has created a Google play and is not the true Google play and my phone calls are being directed to another person than who im calling such as when I call T- mobile and request to speak to someone in the U. S. the person says there is no one in the U. S that I can speak with. My Amazon account is not the original Amazon. I cannot hard reset my phone or factory reset plus the permissions have been grayed out to permissions where I cannot change them to no permissions.

There are pure OS builds available, probably should include it in your next video comparison. Also it-s funny you mention that Lune is the most locked down of the group. Back when I owned a Pre it was the only device with a fully functional terminal. There is an open warehouse of open source palm os software repo available for the pre, it should work on lune but I can-t be sure. It has ways to increase the performance of the UI, increase animation FPS etc. It-s all CSS3 and node based so the tweaks should still be valid.

I hope that all phones would be capable of switching OS's like desktops. For instance I have old phone Galaxy Note 3 and I would love to have Ubuntu touch on it. What made linux distros famous for desktop is their easy boot -ability and low hardware specs requirements. Just like old useful laptops and notebooks come back to life after linux installtion there has to be phone revival as well. And I can say that if this happened Linux OS's will gain momentum.

Dear prof. Rob,
It has been a long time since you last talked about the Pinephone. I have received mine 2 days ago and I am very happy to finally hold it in my hands: )
This is going to be my first attempt to contribute to linux development. Not sure where/how to start. Would it be possible to point me to a direction or give me an advice?
I appreciate your videos and thank you for your time and effort.

well PostmarketOS/phosh is built on alpine linux
and ubuntu is ubuntu which is built on debian.
alpine linux is an incredibly lightweight distro
because doesn't use the gnu libc which is bloated all to hell
and is probably why those other phones have such poor battery life.
if i was those other distros i would switch to an alpine base instead of debian (at least for the pinephone.

Ha ha! Nice rant. I get it. A lot of people don-t or don-t care. -If you can-t see it happening it must not be true. - I just bought a Pine Phone to play around with. I love the idea of the Linux Phone. I-m still pretty new to Linux. Of course I-ll stick with my iPhone for now, but I can-t wait to explore the Pine Phone and become more confident with using the OS.

I know for me I hated when they went with flat icons. I know on the iPhone that I have to use for work when they went with flat icons it was hard for me to hit the icons. Some times I get a pop up menu next to it wondering what I want to do. I do not like the flat icons so for me an OS that does not have flat icons would be great for me.
