I See So Much Negativity In The World DistroTube In this off-topic video, I discuss a very important subject. Want to know the secret to having success and attaining your goals in life, whether those goals are professional goals or even spiritual goals? Stop being negative. We as human beings have negative states of being that must be acknowledged and then destroyed

It-s so important to be aware of your emotions, first of all. You can-t change what you aren-t aware of. It-s also important to be nonjudgmental of your emotions, I think. That-s where I diverge from DT-s position. If you notice that you are feeling angry and then you immediately label it as -negative-, which just means bad, then you will probably repress it or avoid it. I think it-s better to suspend judgement of your emotions. That way, you can deal with them more skillfully. I think there are situations where anger can be functional and effective. As DT mentioned, when someone is harassing you or a loved one, it is not effective to be completely calm and placid. Anger can help to carry you through that situation. I think of anger as similar to fire: if you skillfully allow it to burn in certain situations, and are able to put it out as needed, it can be useful. But if you are repressing your anger because you label it as bad and undesirable, you won-t develop that skill, and the fire may end up burning your house down. Just my two cents on this vital topic.

Hey DT! First of all, I wanted to thank you sharing this video which is about a really important issue concern all of us as you mentioned. I just wanted to add something at 09:51 You said, -you trust nobody because you don't trust you, you think he/she is liar because you are a liar, you think everyone is dishonest because you are dishonest and the other examples... I think there is a different and even stronger reason about people trusting nobody is trauma's (horrible experiences in the past growing inside because of psychological defense mechanism) Unfortunately many people face different kind of trauma's in their past life. They are really hard to fix and causes tough troubles. They affect your whole life like a virus. And if you're in this kind of state; it is really hard to build a relationship, trust somebody, love the world. Simply it is almost impossible to enjoy the life.

That's why sarcasm and irony exist my friend haha you dont get angry just sarcastic and ironic... because not always is your fault that the world is screwed. I'm not blaming anyone but is a fact that this world is full of corruption and crap. We cannot change it.. so everytime I saw something wrong I dont get angry anymore I just make fun of it. If negativity is a problem... extreme positivity is the other side of the coin... another bad habit. The problem is people cant balance and be realistic. They are a) extremely positive b) extremely negative... there is no middle ground. I think that's the major problem. I prefer to call myself a person that see trough lies. Always balance between the two.. or you can fall in the opposite rabbit hole.

I agree.
I-m fundamentally a cynic, but I definitely hold the view that you can be cynical and not negative, it-s possible.
I-ve never used TV all that much, I own one for streaming but it hasn-t been turned on in at least 3 months, I deleted the News application from my phone and all my news now comes filtered to what I feel is good for me to see, from who I feel is good and reliable, direct to my RSS reader in standard text.
I-ve never used mainstream social media, it-s only Mastodon and IRC etc. Much less toxic than FB and Twitter in my experience, plus I have little interest in supporting the latter anyway.

Thanks for talking about this bro, I respect and appreciate you and your work a lot. For me what helped the most getting out of it was getting into stoicism, I still struggle with it sometimes anyway but getting there. One thought that always come to mind is not trying to change others but trying to improve yourself to be the best you can be.
Just curious, was there some recent situation that made you talk about this now?
Btw, I love that Arch mug haha.

i don't understand your culture here, we don't see us self to be any level of what ever, we look on this as we are all one, and what can i do for US to improve US self.
and being Negative do not improve us, but that is maybe the reason we are one of the most happy countries in the world.
Don't put a price on ever thing as in money, and make it your job to make others to feel better and others will follow your lead and you get a better world.

Guys, if you like that topic he's talking about, read Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus. Stoicism holds some really great thoughts on how to deal with anger, negativity and expectations. Especially Marcus Aurelius helped me to get out of a very bad and self-destructive state of mind and to reflect and accept others and myself. To keep in mind that anger won't do you any good is an every day challenge - thanks Derek for reminding me, perfect timing.

-DistroTube -
I set up a new workstation at home and am tinkering with your Xmonad config. I'm really enjoying it over dwm. On a single 32:9 megawide, your config of Xmobar displays twice on the left and right side, so the first time/date is centered. Wasn't expecting it, but actually prefer it. Just wondering if xmobar does this intentionally by recognizing the monitor dimensions. Love your work.

Anger is sometimes justified. Usually this is when we need increased motivation to protect someone else's rights. Justified anger can help us do what we ought to do. There is such a thing as righteous anger, but it has to be based on correct judgments. Because we are often biased, we should be suspicious of whether our anger is justified. Still, sometimes anger is justified.

Couldn't agree more. Some people are really into trashin others on social media, hating on everybody and speaking of how bad everything in the world is and we're literally all gonna die tomorrow. Instead you might turn inside yourself and try to become a better person, or achieve something, or just make your life a little happier...
