Can you still see your desktop icons when setting this?
Does it also need a certain directory where you put your animated wallpaper, so that when you set it through the command line, it knows where to look for the video file?
Doesn't work. Got all dependecies, but got a Syntax Error during install. I used forced install, then it did install. But whenever I try to set a video it says that the format is invalid, while it's just a normal short mp4. Is there a size limit for mp4's? Cuz the one I tried to set was about 128 MB
I think I might just use Komorebi instead

For anyone running KDE Plasma there are multiple options for video wallpaper available. Just go to the wallpaper changer and click get new plugins. I run KDE on a six year old laptop. The video wallpaper is a bit of a performance hit using the -Smart Video Wallpaper- plugin but not too bad. 10% to 25% per core on my old AMD quad core A-10. There is also the -Video Wallpaper- plugin but that one has around 30% cpu usage per core. There is also animated GIF/WEBP plugin available and even one that does something with OpenGL. I'm going to try those soon.

I have the Eye of Sauron watching me in video format, whenever my VPN is disconnected.
I use mpv with xwinwrap to display the video as wallpaper. The framerate with wallset is too low for my taste. And if you write your own script to set your wallpaper from video with feh, it does use up too much performance. mpv with hardware decoding with xwinwrap is a perfect solution for me.

I gave thumbs up just for the sjw video clip. But this is interesting. I might try it except for reservations about the constant cpu load to play the video all the time. I haven't seen such a cool desktop since the rotatable desktop cube on Linux from maybe ten years ago. I wonder if that eye candy cube is still around...

sleep 0.01
let i=i+1

No, not really....
Tiling WM user actually should have the option to put a real video player fullscreen behind any other windows. (If someone really wants to...)

Really what I want to do, is simply to have an SVG as my wallpaper, and have it update whenever the file is changed. As of yet, I have not found a viable way of doing this, though of course it has been a while since I last looked for a solution.

The best wallpaper is a plain solid black wallpaper. Night time friendly. Less storage space. Less wasted RAM. Less wasted CPU cycles. Easier to read things if you do something silly like make your window transparent.

My CPU is too precious for Stallman eating something! So much cringe. His CPU usage increases by -4% however my Ryzen 3 2200G will burn in fire. It uses 20% of my cpu on idle in my qtile setup with the video wallpaper.

Wallpaper engine on steam - running on windows kinda changed the game for this kind of tooling. Anything that wants to be in that space has one hell of a job to do to get up to that level...
