Thanks Chris, for this video. I was actually looking in future to upgrade my MacBook Pro to MBP M1 or next gen M series. The site you provided will help lot's of people to find out which applications supports on M1. About HomeBrew, I actually didn't know anything about homebrew but thanks for getting me interested and I would definitely like to see how do you debloat macOS.
As for M1 bootloader, Apple has completely changed the bootloader for M1. So, booting into recovery, reinstalling macOS will be challenging, installing Windows as BootCamp or running virtual will be difficult because Microsoft has to make ARM Windows 10 as public or partner will Apple and finally Linux will run fine but code would be needed to rewritten for ARM code with support from apple.

I heard that the M1 Macs have the T2 chip security middle-manning the boot sequence to prevent any non MacOS installs on the machine.
Be interesting to see if this is accurate or bypassable, but I wouldn't be surprised Apple really put in extra effort to lock their silicon down; the conspiracy nutter in me wants to fear monger that we are only a few versions away from a completely closed down file system like on iOS...
PS: I use Mavs and don't have an iPhone, so that makes two of us!

Fun to see you enjoy that Mac, but that ecosystem comment surprised me. You don't like it? That's like one of the single reasons to get Apple stuff at all in my book. Copy on iPhone, paste on Mac, add contact on Mac, have it on the iPhone, AirDrop, all the Continuity shenanigans from phone to watch to laptop. Wouldn't miss it for the world. Also, why would you replace a perfectly stable UNIX with a beautiful UI to boot with Linux? Because you can? For shits and giggles?-

Another great video by CTT! I had to look up what the M1 even was, and it looks incredibly impressive. In biz-speak it is potentially a massive paradigm shift in the microprocessor battlespace. Intel will continue to suffer market-share loss and decreased profitability as ARM-based portable and desktop computing increase by more than arithmetic levels across operating systems as well.

Yea most of the techtubers are not talking about app compatibilities! Thanks for the reality check and the talk Chris! The advertisements ( aka sponsored reviews ) from others really do work. Makes it sound like Apple M1 chip is the next best thing to God's drink Amrit! ( or Mana from Heaven! ). Need to control that itchy buy-it syndrome. lol.

Please Make a video about cross-platform test suites (available on linux / windondows / mac) and how we can (or why we cannot) compare different operating systems. And, aside from this, the performance of browsers in different systems (html 5, normal viewing) and FPS on YouTube.

The last MacOS version I have used is MacOS High Sierra or maybe whatever version was before that. That is probably why I actually say that I like Macs. To be honest I probably just liked it because if iMovie. Now I use a 2012 MacBook Air running Debian.

I started with System 6. Around 1988 on an Apple 2e. Before -Mac- was even a thing, and have stayed. Now Im learning the other side. Built myself a system and that was a great way to start. You sir have been very helpful indeed.

Given that you use awesome material, are you going to cover the Gnome Extension Material Shell? It's been quite revolutionary for me, I feel more comfy on my DE but the tiling on this shell is just amazing :D

Same issue w- Acrobat. It doesn-t even show as available to download in the Creative Cloud app on my M1 MBP. Hopefully Adobe fixes soon.. other than that, good experience with M1 and Big Sur so far.
